Anthony Wong + Richie Ren = Win

2 of my fav HK actors. The only thing that concerns me is the last Johnnie To "Produced" film I saw was "Eye in the Sky". I did not like that one too much. I much prefer To films that he directs.

I'll pick this up eventually but it's not a must buy for me. From what I've read it's nothing special of a movie. I think it's just a case of the director (Law Wing-cheong) being out of his depth. He's directed past efforts such as Hooked on You and 2 Become 1 so I think trying to do a dark crime film does not exactly fit his style.

I thought Eye In The Sky was great. It's one of the best recent Milkyway movies in my book. The simplicity and efficiency of the thin plot really worked and made everything so intense and moody. I think To is as great a producer as he is a director. Beyond Hypothermia, Intruder, The Odd One Dies, Too Many Ways To Be No. 1, Expect The Unexpected, The Longest Nite, Gimme Gimme, Tactical Unit - No Way Out, and Accident are all exceptional.

Law Wing Cheong is actually a genre director and has directed a variety of movies beside romances. He co-directed Running Out Of Time 2, and was behind other movies such as horror movie Ghost Office and the first and last Tactical Unit movie (unrelated follow-ups to PTU).

I wasn't saying that he works specifically in the confines of the romance genre. I was pointing out that those movies and their lack of tension have carried over to Punished based on the reviews.

It has had mixed reviews but it really appeals to me, hopefully the blu ray will be of excellent quality.

Saw it yesterday. It's the best Milkyway movie to date imo.

Here's my review: http://www.filmsmash.com/blog/punish...ie-review.html

What are some of your favorite Milkyway movies DooK? Your enthusiasm has me wondering whether I need to see this as soon as possible now. I want to see how our tastes match up when it comes to their output.

Isn't that just pretty much them all, DooK? But yeah, they're all cracking films. I'd also put Expect the Unexpected amongst my personal favourites and rate Vengeance much more than most seem to, too. Certainly prefer both those to PTU and Running Out of Time 1&2. Triangle is great as well but I can't recall whether it's an actual Milkyway production.

Yeah, almost haha.

Triangle is a Milkyway movie with co-finance by Media Asia Films and Polybona Film Distribution.
