I was at walmart today and saw the untouchables on blu ray. I was going to buy it but saw that the cover was different than the one i have seen in the past and also on this website. Before i buy it i wanted to know if the PQ, AQ or Bonus Features were any different on these 2 Releases.
New Release is on the left and the Original Release and also the only one listed on this site is on the right. ![]() any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks |

I believe one of them (not sure which one) comes with a DVD documentary about gang/mob activity during the prohibition era
Nothing to do with "The Untouchables" whatsoever I know it comes with the digibook version, which has the same cover as the right picture (with the red border), so it's likely it would come with the "Collector's Edition" as opposed to the new release However in Canada, the extra DVD only comes with the digibook, both the older and new release have the same disc, so it's just a new cover. EDIT: Just realized you live in Toronto! Me too! I'd say that they're the same, different cover. |

I think your thinking of the wrong movie. Goodfellas came in a Digibook as well as the amary and they just released the steelbook. This is what your thinking of ![]() Untouchables only came in an Amaray case. Both movies have De Niro in them and are about the mob, that might be why you must have mistaken them. Either way makes no sense to re release the exact same movie 2x with a different cover. Usually when they re issue a movie they add more bonus features, its been remastered, its a different cut of the movie or comes in special packaging (ie: steelbook) examples of that would be Sin City or the Remastered Version Of Gangs of NY, Lord of the rings trilogy, or Avatar. All Reissued but with Major changes. So Rereleasing a movie with a diff cover when the original is still available and not OOP is a waste of money for the studio. Why pay to make and print all new covers when the discs are the same?? There has to be some sort of change for them to do that. Last edited by faraz69; 06-30-2011 at 07:16 AM. |

Have you seen the new cover in stores? I certainly haven't and both FS and BB's website only show the red cover. Some movies are released with a new cover just to make people think they're buying something different. Like how Terminator was released originally, then they put a slipcover over it later. Another one off the top of my head is Equilibrium. It was released in Canada a few months before the US release with one cover, when the US version was released it switched covers, but the disc is exactly the same. |

I am not completely sure, but I think Paramount is just re-releasing a few of their blu-rays with different cover art. I know that they did this with the Manchurian Candidate and the discs are identical. I believe these two releases are exactly the same, but the best way to make sure is to compare the special features on both versions.
The only re-releases that you have to worry about with Paramount is the ones that originally came with two discs. Paramount has recently re-released these ones with different cover art, but they do not include the second disc, thus you are missing out on some special features. The ones that come to mind right now are Transformers and Iron Man. |
