Sharp, Sony, Something Else? Help Please - Blu-ray Forum

Hey, I'm not a huge videophile but I am big into HD display and sound. Currently have a 42" Samsung thats pretty old and looking to upgrade (Well my Dad is but I'm his consultant). I have always been a big Sony guy but I also have always thought Sharp was top of the line. Been looking at this 52" Sharp http://www.sharpusa.com/ForHome/Home...C52LE832U.aspx
it's about $1,450 everywhere which seems pretty decent. If anyone has any input or maybe a better deal please feel free to help.
Budget: roughly $1,400
Size Wanted: roughly 50"

Unless you are planning on going 3D any time in the future, or at all, look for TV's that are not 3D ready as this will drive the price down considerably. Also, there are some extremely good florescent LCD's being cleared out because of the LED LCD craze so you could also save some cash there.

I am not going to speak to the quality of Sony but I will say that I have always felt Sony TV's are way over priced when compared to competitor TV's from Sharp, Samsung and Pioneer. LG have also come a long way in the LCD bizz and make some very good sets. I'm not saying to avoid Sony at all but you can get the same quality from other top brands for less.

I personally prefer plasmas, because they have faster refresh rates, better black level performance, better color saturation, and better off-angle viewing.
I have a Panasonic, and I love it!

Thanks for the replies so far, definitely not going with 3D as I am not a big fan and I don't think it will catch on big any time soon. For the refresh rates I'm thinking 120, because I feel 240 is almost unnecessary or excessive imo. I'm really just interesting in what people think in overall quality of Sharp, Sony, or what you think is the best brand. I'm tired of reading reviews on amazon and best buy about how Vizio is the best haha.

Best Buy still has the 60" Sharp LC60E78UN on sale for $1299. It's not a quattron set but it's still pretty nice. There is a thread on it a couple down from this one too.

I dont know anyone with a Sharp HDTV so I cannot say anything on that. I do know from personal experience that Samsung IMO is a better HDTV than Sony and is somewhat cheaper than Sonys. I am speaking of LCD/LEDs 120hz and not Plasmas. LGs are from what I understand a good product as well " my friend has one and loves it, although its not a yellow pixel model". The price of Plasmas have dropped alot since the LED craze started and you can save alot of cash and probably get a larger TV if you choose to go that way. If you choose Plasma there is nothing better on the market right now other than Panasonic.

I'm not sure if anyone can give you a definitive answer on who is "the best" because all brands have their pluses and weaknesses. What you have to do decide how big of a screen you want then LCD or plasma. After you have decided on screen size and type of display then start looking at whats available in the price range you are looking to spend.

I have always liked Sharp. They were one of the first LCD TV makers, if not the first, and I've always been impressed every time I see one or have a chance to play around with them. I also believe LG makes some great LCD TV's as well. Of course you have Sony and Samsung but lke I said before about Sony prices I think you can get the same quality TV for cheaper in another brand. Samsung makes great TV's but I personally don't support that company because of their shady bizz practices. A quick search on Google and you'll see why.

Sharp, LG, Sony and Samsung are all fantastic TV makers so you can't really go wrong with any of them. Choose the the one that fits your budget, size and feature set.

Thanks, I know a decent amount on the subject which I guess I didn't display to well in the topic post, but I guess I was kinda just looking for someone to back me up on Sharp because thats what I want to be the best. Like I said I'm a Sony guy but this Sharp is hard to beat for the price, and it just dropped $100 so I think it is what I'll be getting.

I have owend Sharp Tv's for years and they have been great. Wouldn't venture into their blu ray players though. It is a good price for the size.

Post some pics when you have it up and running.

I just wanted to post on here that I just got a Sony KDL-55NX810 for almost $1900 dollars after taxes and my $250 5 year warranty

from the Sony Style store. It was a display model (on display since Nov 2010) in mint condition.

Sorry for to Hijack you thread but Im new and cant post new thread yet. Just in case anyone wants a good deal on a Sony, hit up your local Sony Style store and ask them when are the new models coming (Im guessing later this year or maybe early next year since they just released new models or sooner) and tell them you want to be put on the list for the display models. They will give you 40% off the price and offer you extended warranty. Of course they let you see and test the TV before purchase but its usually first come first serve bases.

It just happen I was looking for a new Sony Bravia TV and the Manager asked if I was intrested. One month later I got a phone call and picked it up the next day. You have 24 hours to claim the TV your and if not, they go down the list to the next person. Offer you 2-5 year warranty (strongly suggest getting this) in house repair no questions asked.

I think it was a good deal for a semi new TV. Works perfectly with no problems

I just saw the 70" Quattron today for the first time (Sharp 70le732u) and it was looking good.
