Sadly, this is another one of those live-action efforts that Disney has loved to constantly sweep under the rug; none of them even have a DVD release. The films were made from 1987 to 1992, and are based on a book series of the same name. The movies follow the adventures of "boy android" Chip Carson (Jay Underwood) and his scientist "father" Jonas (Alan Thicke). The first two entries also feature Jonas' actual daughter, Becky (Robyn Lively).
The technology used for Chip in the films looks vastly outdated today, but was fairly accurate for the late '80s and early '90s. I wouldn't mind them remaking the series today, providing they kept the innocence intact rather than sleazing it up. Here's the first 15 minutes of the original film, for those unfamiliar with the series... |
