Anyone who can comment on the video/audio quality of this release and on whether the Italian subtitles are forced or not?

...This is my review from another forum! Please, sorry for my bad english!

… Premised that “I shook”, to the single thought to see the umpteenth bad one transfer of a masterpiece… Fortunately it has not even been so!
Viewed here and there and to my modest seeming it is made indeed an optimal job, I do not have the more pale idea from which master HD they have carried out the transfer, also because until yesterday there was alone (besides that Italian always of Eagle) an optimal DVD published from the Criterion, and also because we are first all over the world to having the BD of “Naked Lunch”, and even if someone than you has some information in merit would be indeed curious to know it.
But I repeat, to my warning, the final result is optimal.
Traces of several filters (DNR or EE) I have not noticed any, the detail is always present, the fine grain is always in motion and it is not frozen, the colorimetry me is seemed indeed very natural, trace audio both in Italian that in English it is in DTS HD MA, with the optional subtitles both in Italian that in English..
The coding is in VC-1 and the middle bitrate it is enough varying, but, it middly settles in around 19 Mbpses with tips of 23. 25.
The only doubt that comes me is sull' original Aspect Ratio of the film, that, if is not go erred, he should be 1.85:1, (as it brings the technical card on the Imdb) while here on the BD the film is introduced in 1.78:1, to full screen. Indeed Interesting also the Extras among which is an it interviews to Jeremy Thomas And also a Comment Audio of Cronenberg with the optional subtitles both in Italian that in English.
Then for me has been indeed a pleasant surprise and for the Lovers of Cronenberg (and not only) I warmly recommend the purchase of it!.

My copy just arrived and indeed image and sound quality are very good and I'm quite happy with it. It's region B locked, comes in a beautiful slipcase with spot gloss effect, and has the Cronenberg audio commentary and a 20min interview with producer Jeremy Thomas.

Here's the screenshot comparison between the new Blu Ray and the DVD:

Looks good, especially if you consider that the DVD it's up against in these caps is the Criterion.

Thumbs up

hey, just got this! it looks great, brighter and less saturated than the criterion release. here are some comparisons...

the criterion dvd also seems to have stretched the picture vertically a little bit which has been corrected on this release.

i must say i was surprised since i'm usually a little skeptical of imports and because criterion did such a great job on the dvd (btw almost 10 years ago now, 2003) but this is definitely worth it if you don't want to wait for a criterion blu-ray.

great buy. great movie.

Between your caps and the ones at caps-a-holic I do see a slight vertical stretch on the Criterion in certain shots, but in others it seems completely absent, with just a slight shift in frame position on the blu-ray. The Criterion looks top notch for SD, with the blu from the same master giving a modest improvement in all areas. Same situation as Criterion's Straw Dogs vs the MGM BD.

Edit: Actually, I see the slight stretch in every shot in the caps-a-holic, but in a couple of your grabs it seems absent, such as the second grab of Peter Weller's face. Weird. My guess is it's just not an exact frame match and the stretch is probably there the whole time.
