Which sequel of 2011 is most likely to disappoint?

The games that I think will least likely to disappoint are: Mass Effect 3 and Uncharted 3. My only concern about Uncharted 3 is that it will be less good than Uncharted 2.

My concern about Mass Effect 3 is simply that it will not be able to meet the massive expectations that come with it in terms of importing characters from previous games.

Duke Nukem Forever and Fear 3 are what I feel are most likely to disappoint.
Alice Madness Returns is also a game that I have low expectations for since the developer does not have a great track record in recent years (Bad Day in LA, anyone?).

My general concern with some of these sequels is that they will suffer from what I call "Halo 2 syndrome" in that they will do everything to try to make the game bigger and better, expand the story with too much drama but lose some of the heart of the game that preceded it. I feel that Dead Space 2, and Resistance 2 are recent examples of this.

What are your thoughts?

I think it's virtually impossible for Uncharted 3 to be "less good" than 2 like you say. I think it's possible that it can be the same amount of goodness, but not worse. But I think it will not disappoint.

I voted on what I think public reaction will be. I don't see how Duke can live up to any expectations people have and I think it will be an absolute huge disappointment.

As to my personal expectations and beliefs, I have been disappointed with every COD since World at War and I fully expect that to continue. I won't even step near it this year. Between Uncharted 3 and Battlefield 3, I won't want an inferior game taking up my time.

However, I think Shift 2 has already taken my biggest sequel disappointment of 2011 award. I immediately regretted buying it. If another sequel this year disappoints me more than that, than it will be bloody awful. But of the games I'm getting, I don't think that's a likely chance.

I think Duke Nukem Forever will disappoint. I think its going to turn out to being an average shooter(nothing special) with Duke Nukem toilet/vulgar humor. Of course I hope the game is more than that. I hope it turns out to be great game. But I dont really have any hope for the game.

The first day sells are going probably going to be really good. Fans of Duke are going to buy it, also some people are only going to buy it because its taken (12?) years to come out.

I have VERY low expectations for Duke Nukem Forever. I will wait until reviews come out. Either way it's a game that I will own but I may wait until it's in the bargain bin depending on how good it is. Nostalgia is what is driving me to check it out.

Of those listed, I'll probably only play Uncharted, Infamous and ME3. I actually think I'm more disappointed in Dead Space 2 than I expect to be in any of these.

I expect UC3 to be on par with UC and UC2. UC2 was not leaps and bounds better than UC, but it was just as good, which is saying a lot. I don't think UC3 will disappoint.

I voted for Infamous 2. I suspect I will feel the same way about this as I do Dead Space 2. I fear the game will just not "feel" the same. And like Dead Space, it's a tough game to follow, because you just can't do more of the same with a fresh story. Dead Space 2 did less of the same with a partially new story, I would argue.

ME3, like the UC series, needs do nothing different from the previous installment, it only needs a fresh story with a few new faces and places to satisfy me. Screwing it up will take an effort.

I'm going to have to say DNF. The game has been in production for 14 years and people are expecting it to be like a BJ machine that gives you money and candy. My point is no matter how great DNF end up being, people will be disappointed because it wasn't worth the 14 year wait.

If you have low expectations for something, how can you be disappointed by it? By predicting disappointment you are lowering your expectations, so you can't be disappointed.

I don't expect much from any of these games except Uncharted 3, therefore that's the only one I can possibly be disappointed by (but I don't expect to be).

i know what im getting with cod, last years game with a slightly different setting. DNF has been hyped for 10 years which isnt good to begin with,

As much as I love the Duke's of Ole' it's been delayed, ad canceled, and reinstated, and delayed too much to be of any significant relevance now.

COD can't really disappoint anyone who knows what they're getting in to when they buy it.

That's exactly why it could (but probably won't) disappoint Hey, it happens to FF7 and MGS2 for me (although both games were still pretty good)

On the issue of CoD, I believe that if anything, it'll be a pleasant surprise given how some people are down on Black Ops

Uncharted 3 and Mass Effect 3 bear the burden of ultra high expectations and almost anything less than perfection will considered a disappointment.

So how could UC3 disappoint?

Well, the story could end up being weaker than the first two. UC1 and 2's strengths were they had a cinematic strong story that had great digital acting that was backed up by strong (but not necessarily groundbreaking) gameplay. If that ends up being weaker then it could hurt the overall game and I can see people being slightly disappointed.

I want to make it clear that being disappointed does not necessarily mean that the game will be bad.

Dead Space 2 was a disappointment to me not because it was a bad game. Far from it. But because I felt the developers went overboard in trying to give more of what people liked from the first game by going more into shock value territory instead of old school scaring tactics that was more pronounced in the first one. Plus they made some questionable decisions in the game to make it more difficult by upping the cheapness factor and that NEVER works.

I voted CoD, but honestly I'm only interested in the games that don't look to disappoint. U3, R3, Infamous 2 all look amazing and at this point I'm confident that all of them will be GOTY quality.

Ill tell you a game that I have SLIGHT concerns about is Arkham City in that I am just not sure I buy into the whole Arkham Asylum being moved into the city concept. It just seems a little far fetched.
