Default Blu-ray at your local library

It seems libraries in my area are starting to introduce blu-ray discs into their catalogues. Is this happening or has this happened near anyone else?

Unfortunately, no. Our library doesn't even have any CDs available (although plenty of DVDs )

None in my area. I think most library budgets these days are too tight to start investing in blus.

Mine doesn't, and they didn't even want the Bond titles I was willing to donate that I had duplicates of at home.

Looks like the Los Angeles library at least has a few... That's a start.

Wow...I guess I'm the only one. They don't get them right away. Usually takes a month to get a new release in their database. But my Lib has about 400 blu's. I live near the Scranton, Pa area and I guess they have good funding. Their entire 1st floor is nothing but Dvds, Cd's, Vhs, and now blu-ray. It's great because I don't have to rent anymore or waste my $ on a blind buy.

Here's their blu-ray collection database.

Mine does. They have about 50 BDs currently, mostly new releases, no duplicates. I doubt they will be adding on catalog titles though.

You can borrow some they label as "new arrivals" for 2 days, all others are 5 days. One time charge of $10 to borrow from them including SD DVDs, no charge per movie afterwards. If they keep building their stock, I know where I'll be getting lots of my stuff from in the future!

At least one of mine does but like others have said only the nature/doc type of blurays mostly. I'm hoping after some more time passes I'll see newer releases.

In the Portland, OR, area one library has blu-rays and it has all kinds -- all the new releases and blockbusters are there. Punisher War Zone for example was there like right when it was released. I was told they are planning to keep on expanding their collection. I don't know how many they have now, maybe 400 by now. I'm sure they have them, but I never saw any nature/doc blu-rays.

Let your librarians know about blu-ray and maybe they will think about adding them.

I also let tiny studios know I'd be interested in blu-ray versions of their titles. Blu-ray will spread by word of mouth.

Wow. Where do you live? I live in rural Minnesota, and the libraries around here go ape when I show up with an armload of DVDs to donate. I've posted before in a different thread about donating DVDs to libraries when a person upgrades movies to Blu ray.

I suppose if you live in a larger city they probably have less use for them, but even so I'm surprised they rejected them. If nothing else, our library would give them to the local Friends of the Library to sell - they use the funds they raise for library programs. Once I brought a sack full of DVDs to one of these sales to donate and the local librarian happened to be there - she snapped them up and put them on the library shelf right away. Now I just take them straight to her.

The cool thing is, if I ever need access to a DVD copy of a movie I've upgraded to Blu, I just walk a few blocks and borrow it back, and in the meantime others can enjoy some of my favorite movies, rather than them sitting around collecting dust.

As far as there being Blu ray movies at my local library - none yet. I haven't dropped any of those off yet. But you can find my old copy of Call of Duty 3 there for the PS3!
