Default Keep the Panny 65"vt25 or get the new 70" Sharp LED

Hey Guy,

Just pulled the trigger on the new 70" Sharp LED tv and get it delivered today. I liked the bigger screen. I currently have the Panasonic 65" vt25 which I would sell. I'm having second thought now. The tv is being delivered this afternoon but u can cancel and get my money back. What do you guys think? I appreciate the help.

There is no way I'd swap a 65" panny VT25 for a 70" Sharp LED LCD. What are the benefits of 5 more inches of an inferior display...?

I'm keeping the Panny. I went to HHgregg to get my refund and they tried to talk me into getting a Samsung 64D8000 that they didn't even have in stock. I now have to go back tomorrow and get my refund cause the other tv is still on the delivery truck. What an inconvenience, they were trying to convince me on other tvs being better than my vt25 which I bought from them in November. They just lost a customer now. I'm pissed at them.

Keep in mind you are asking this in the Plasma sub-forum, so most are going to answer "keep the plasma".

The reality is that the Panny plasma which you have, was their flagship 2010 model and it's unlikely that the Sharp LED will provide better picture quality.

It all depends what you value more in your set. Do you want the superior fluid motion handling of the plasma, plus better picture quality or do you want/need a brighter display which the Sharp possibly might be if you are in a non-controlled bright environment, and want the extra 5" and don't care about quality vs quantity.

Call me crazy, but I'd take the Sharp over the Panny. The VT25's black level will rise be pretty much equal to or worse than the Sharp. Not to mention the floating blacks. The only reasons to get the plasma over the LED are 3D, better viewing angles and maybe motion resolution. I've seen the Sharp in a moderate environment and was pretty impressed with it.
Of course, I have a big living room with lots of windows so it would work very well in it.

I have an ISF calibrated Panasonic 65PZ850U in my HT that looks amazing and I NEVER (as do all my family members and friends who come to watch movies) have to worry about the screen washing out when they move or sit or lay down on the floor. Great off axis viewing is the main reason I would never switch from plasma to something else, even for something much bigger. (though awesome PQ helps, too.)

So you're telling me that you would get rid of the best display that was produced last year because the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen change shade a tiny bit when you watch a movie. I think it is time to watch a movie and enjoy it, rather than just staring at the display looking for flaws. Regardless if they float or not the sharp is still going to look like there is a light behind the screen. We have the 70" sharp at my work and it looks half as good as the VT20 it is currently sitting next too.

Keep the Panasonic, return that piece of junk sharp..

The Sharp 70" is way too soft and too yellow-ish. It's probably best for a board room for graphics only IMO. We have it on the wall at work. Terrible image. 1080p looks like 1080i

How's the new Samsung PN64D8000? Cosmetically it looks great.

The best thing to do would be to set them up side by side and decide for yourself. Make up your own mind and don't let some "people" do it for you.

I've read a good review and some positive feedback on the Sharp set at HDJ and AVS. I've also seen one in a showroom and was impressed with the PQ.

Really the reason that I'd get the 70" Sharp set is for watching TV, sports and for gaming. I'd leave the BD viewing for the Pioneer 101.
