Default ABC's "Most Wanted" (Series Premiere Late 2016)

Quote:
Marvel developing Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff for ABC

Huge news for Agents of SHIELD fans. Not only is a third season of the action-adventure series pretty much guaranteed, but Marvel is quietly developing a spinoff for ABC.

We’re told a spinoff is being developed by SHIELD executive producer Jeffrey Bell (Angel, The X-Files) and SHIELD writer Paul Zbyszewski (Lost, Hawaii Five-0).

We don’t know is which characters from the current series will be moving over to the proposed spinoff – so let the speculation being on that. There won’t be an implanted pilot episode this season directly setting up the spinoff, either (like how CW launched The Flash out of Arrow). However, story elements that are still to come on SHIELD this year will be used to lay the groundwork for the potential new series. So by the end of the season – assuming the details for this project haven’t already leaked, which is rather unlikely – the spinoff concept should be clear.

Under the best-case scenario, the spinoff would hit ABC as soon as this fall. But there are other timing possibilities too, including midseason. Of course, the spinoff also might not even happen. Not only is SHIELD not yet officially renewed, but ABC has yet to select which of its crop of pilots will receive series orders – decisions that could impact the SHIELD spinoff plan.

SHIELD currently averages 7.4 million viewers and a 2.8 rating among adults 18-49, when including seven days of DVR playback. If greenlit, the spinoff would expand Marvel’s TV empire yet again. On ABC there’s SHIELD and Agent Carter (that latter, we’re told, has about a roughly 60 percent chance of returning for a second season). Plus the studio has its multi-title Netflix slate in the pipeline which launches tomorrow with Daredevil. ABC does not comment on current development, and Marvel had no comment.

So which character(s) do you think Marvel is eyeing for the SHIELD spinoff?

I'm wondering if this will involve the other SHIELD team or maybe the InHumans. I'm still holding out hope that we get a Season 2 of Agent Carter

Not that I was too doubtful, but I'd say the fact that they are even developing a spin-off pretty much guarantees that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is in no danger of being cancelled.

Whatever they do, though, I'm thinking that it shouldn't come off as an obvious SHIELD spin-off. In terms of general perception, the show hasn't really recovered from the lukewarm reception of its early days. Otherwise, I'd fear that the people who dropped the show and never came back probably wouldn't give the new show much of a chance.

The show was never going to be cancelled. It would make it to season 4 for syndication, because Disney is big on synergy, which means keeping the Marvel brand alive on TV, not just the movies. Disney also believes in digital media more than anyone, so they're starting to really look at DVR and digital numbers, not just live ratings, and the series is proving one of their biggest guns in that department. So they're standing behind it, which is great for fans and Marvel.

Well, that's partially why I said I was never too doubtful. But the fact that they would even consider a spin-off should be enough to convince even the doubters and naysayers that it isn't going anywhere soon.

I just hope the spin-off isn't another spy show and is something that can really distinguish itself from AoS. And perhaps they can insert a little more style compared to AoS as well, since that's an area of the current show that can still use some improvement.

There're rumors that ABC wants something female-led and they're talking about giving a show to Adrianne Palicki from what I'm hearing. I like Agent Tight T-Shirt, but I don't know how they'd give her her own show. I'm kind of surprised that they're considering this, the rating for AOS have been pretty low, from what I understand, if it weren't tied to the MCU by Disney, I doubt it would've made it this long.

I'm wondering if they'll split Skye and the powered people to that show. Unless SHIELD starts accepting more powered agents the show won't be "Agents" of SHIELD due to the number of non-SHIELD powered characters they're introducing.

Well a way that seems somewhat likely is (spoilers for at least 2 episodes ago, I haven't seen this week's yet)
[Show spoiler]that it could be about the other, "official," branch of SHIELD that Edward James Olmos is the head of that she has been working with behind everyone's back

Maybe Agent Tight T-Shirt will be the head of the ops squad for SHIELD II and each SHIELD will have its own show? I guess that's possible.

I know that I'm probably the only one, but I'm not liking the idea of this show. Marvel shouldn't try to copy DC with Arrow/Flash.

Marvel should just stick with AOS and Agent Carter.

Maybe they are not so much coping CW's plan for Arrow/The Flash
as they are Joss Whedon's Buffy/Angel?

Adrianne Palicki And Nick Blood To Lead Planned AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Spinoff

Quote:
EXCLUSIVE: As ABC and Marvel are prepping a spinoff from sophomore drama Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., I have learned that Season 2 cast additions to the mothership series Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood are finalizing deals to headline the offshoot.

Palicki and Blood's characters Lance Hunter and Barbara “Bobbi” Morse aka Mockingbird have quickly become fan favorites since joining Phil Coulson’s (Clark Gregg) team early this season. Lance is a quick-witted mercenary sharpshooter, while Bobbi worked undercover in HYDRA laboratories. Giving the spinoff a Mr. & Mrs. Smith vibe, Lance and Bobbi are former husband and wife who have let sparks fly in a push-pull relationship on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Marvel, ABC and reps for Palicki and Blood declined comment.

The spinoff is supposed to be set up by events from this season of S.H.I.E.L.D. It is unclear whether that would involve the secret plan by Bobbi and Mack, which had been heavily teased going into the spring run of the show.

The offshoot was developed by S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer Jeffrey Bell and co-executive producer Paul Zbyszewski, who are writing the script and would executive produce. ABC is not expected to make a formal greenlight call until the script comes in, with the hope being to be able to do that before the upfronts. The spinoff may film a promo or do a pilot. If it goes to series, I hear Zbyszewski is expected to serve as showrunner.

The setup of the spinoff would allow it to air concurrently with S.H.I.E.L.D. The question is whether, following the decision to put Once Upon A Time and Once Upon A Time In Wonderland on the schedule at the same time, something ABC brass later officially regretted as likely damaging the spinoff’s chances — the network would do that again with S.H.I.E.L.D. Using the spinoff as a bridge between the fall and spring portions of S.H.I.E.L.D., which was the original plan for the two Once series, would make more sense.

The Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff is one of two new Marvel series for ABC in the works, along with a drama written by John Ridley, that, according to the latest online speculation, may be centered on Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan). ABC and Marvel also have midseason drama Agent Carter in contention for next season.

Well, this is disappointing. Was hoping they would stick around with the current cast.

I'm not too sure about this either. On the one hand, SHIELD is getting a bit overcrowded and could stand to lose a few characters so everyone else gets more fleshed out. But on the other hand, these two characters have come to work quite well within the ensemble, and I'm also just not sure if this sort of spin-off would be able to differentiate itself too much from the original show.
