What's that adult-oriented anime game?

I read about it and wanted to try it but I just can't remember the name.

Don't know if it's by a famous anime director, but I thought of the game Catherine instantly.

My memory was iffy. I vaguely remember watching the trailer and remember reading about the development team (the anime portion I think is handled by the team behind animatrix and stuff)

Actually Animatrix, Batman Gotham Knight, and Halo Legends were done by a few different animation companies. Studio 4°C just happens to be one of the companies that have provided at least 1 of the episodes in each one of those movies.

It would be more accurate to say like the company who animated I believe Tekkonkinkreet or like Tweeny Witches since I think they're the ones who animated those from beginning to end. Plus among other things as well.

you could be disappointed, it's a tricky puzzle game where you climb cubes and have to rearrange them to go to the top, better check youtube for gameplay videos

It's more than just that, since you'll also be dodging the boss from killing you, plus those cubes do fall down while you're trying to escape from the nightmare by reaching the top.
