I enjoy mine very much. I haven't test any file format other than a fully ripped dvd. I use it to put all of my region coded dvds on it. The quality is excellent!! I think I've loaded about 60-70 full dvds onto it and I've only used about 1/3 of the space. So I'm guessing I can put around 170-190 movies on there.

I have noticed a couple small issues with it (at least they occur to me) but I don't think they are deal breakers,

1st, the machine has randomly turned on for me. But it might be one of two reasons, the power on button on the remote accidently was pressed and i wasn't paying attention, or I've noticed that it turned on after ive had a power outage. Not sure what exactly causes it, like I've said, it's only happend like 2-3 times for me.

2nd, I have to do a reset on the machine after I've uploaded my files to it (when hooked directly to pc). There are a few options when uploading your files, I, myself, connect directly to pc and map it like an external drive. The only problem with this is that when you viewing the device normally, it will show that you have no files in your video folder through the interface. However, if you were to browse through the 'all files' folder in the interface, everything is there. Once you restart your device through the settings menu, everything is back to normal and you can browse through the video folder.

Those were the two main issues that I've had. I have noticed that the sound is a bit low, but I think that's just dvd that I was watching didnt have a good audio on it.

OP you're probably already aware but another even cheaper option would be the WDTV Live Plus coupled with an external hard drive. It lacks the internal storage of the Live Hub, isn't as sleek looking and the user interface isn't as slick, but it does its main job--playing media files--just as well. It also offers all the same additional services--Netflix, youtube, etc--as the Hub to my knowledge. I've had one since January and have been perfectly satisfied. They can be had for around $90 or even less used or refurbished.
