Good news. I was considering to buy the American BD, but i was glad i didn`t. If this has real HD quality, i will buy it.

The US BD is a travesty; it's one of the worst transfers that I've ever seen period, DVD included. Avoid it at all costs.

the french release is 1 second longer hardly worth worrying about.if the german BD has good audio/video,i'll get it.

Received today from Grooves-inc, was posted last Friday.

Hmmmmmmmm, I honestly don't know what to think.

I was never that outraged by the Fox release to begin with. This movie has always looked soft and some people don't seem to understand that. I bought this simply because I wanted to see if it had a better encoding, as opposed to Fox's outdated MPEG-2 transfer.

The German disc is a very low bitrate AVC transfer, on a BD-25.
DTS-HD-MA 6.1 audio.

It looks softer than the Fox release, probably due to the lack of any apparent filtering. The low bitrate could be factored in, but then I believe much of the original photography is to blame.

If you're going to pick this up, thinking that it'll have better 'definition' than the Fox release, think again.

I haven't checked yet if it'll play on a US machine,(despite the ABC logos), but the extras are definitely in PAL.

I noticed that there was a recent release of this film, by Universum Film. The US 20th Century Fox has very poor reviews, and I wondered how this new German edition is? Has anyone got it?
