Cold Case alum Danny Pino has been cast in Stephen Gaghan's pilot for NBC S.I.L.A., a complex drama in the style of Traffic and Syriana set in the world of crime, law enforcement and politics in sprawling modern-day Los Angeles. The project, centers on detective Terry Mullins, who works in L.A. Mayor's Special Investigations Unit. He is partnered with Douglas Romero (Pino), a 3rd generation Angelino and a great surfer. Daniella Alonso will play a former newscaster type who's now the press liaison for Mayor Zaragoza. Also cast in the pilot is Matthew Levy as Max, an adrenaline junkie teen.

Madchen Amick has landed the female lead in Stephan Gaghan's NBC drama pilot S.I.L.A., a complex drama in the vein of Traffic set in the world of crime, law enforcement and politics in modern-day Los Angeles. Amick, will play Mary, who came from a blue-collar background to become a successful Century City lawyer.

Noah Emmerich is set to star in Stephen Gaghan's pilot for NBC S.I.L.A., a complex ensemble drama in the style of Traffic and Syriana set in the world of crime, law enforcement and politics in sprawling modern-day Los Angeles. Also cast in the pilot, from 20th TV and Chernin Entertainment, is Emma Dumont. Working in Mayor Virgilio Zaragoza's Special Investigations Unit, detective Terry Mullins (Emmerich) has returned to Los Angeles to re-connect with his 15-year-old daughter Jennifer (Dumont) and try to get along with his ex-wife and Jennifer's mother, high-powered attorney Mary McCarthy (Madchen Amick). Emmerich, recently did arcs on USA's White Collar and AMC's The Walking Dead. He will next be seen in J.J. Abrams' Super 8.

Jimmy Smits To Star In 'S.I.L.A'

Jimmy Smits has been tapped as the last major lead in NBC's untitled Stephen Gaghan drama pilot (formerly S.I.L.A.), a complex ensemble drama in the style of Traffic and Syriana set in the world of crime, law enforcement and politics in sprawling modern-day Los Angeles. The pilot, from 20th TV, Chernin Entertainment and Gaghan's Unsupervised, centers on Los Angeles Mayor Alfonso Morales (Smits) and his Special Investigations Unit led by detective Terry Mullins (Noah Emmerich), who has returned to LA to re-connect with his 15-year-old daughter Jennifer (Emma Dumont) and try to get along with his ex-wife, high-powered attorney Mary McCarthy (Madchen Amick). Morales is described as a man full of ambition who cares deeply about his city, power and women, perhaps in reverse order.

Smits was the first actor approached by Gaghan for the pilot. The NYPD Blue alum had originally planned to sit this pilot season out but was drawn to the opportunity to work with an A-list filmmaker like Gaghan on a character drama, a genre rarely seen on broadcast TV these days. Also appealing to Smits was the chance to reunite with new NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt, who ran Showtime when Smits did a season-long arc on Dexter, a stint that earned him an Emmy nomination. The pilot brings Smits back to NBC where he hit stardom with his Emmy-winning role on L.A. Law. The actor also co-starred on the network's White House drama The West Wing and, most recently, toplined NBC's Outlaw last season.

I keep hearing that NBC has passed on Stephen Gagan's Metro which must have been this show renamed. I am very bummed, I had such high hopes. You'd think with someone like Gaghan they would have wanted him to retool it instead of just straight up passing. I'd been reading how it was in serious contention up until yesterday. That is a real shame....
