Germany Der Fuchs und das Mädchen... any good?

I haven't seen the film but think it's my type of movie. Does the movie worth owing? If it is region free and has English subtitles, I'd like get it from Amazon.de. Please give me some info, folks. Thanks.

I own the German disc. It contains the German dub only (!) - the original French audio track is missing . I think that makes all further questions irrelevant. I liked the movie though, but I hate discs, that are missing the original audio track...

By the way: Kinowelt never puts English subtitles on their discs anyway. Neither for German nor for foreign (for example English) movies. An exception are the English subtitles on 'Dances With Wolves' for the native american dialogue.

Thank you for the info. I thought German was the original track for the film. Is there any different vesions of the blu-ray?

It's a french movie. The original title is 'Le renard et l'enfant'.

There is a french release from Buena Vista Home Entertainment, but as far as I know, that doesn't contain English subs either (see Le renard et l'enfant (blu-ray) for example).

I don't know if there are any other blu-ray releases of this movie.

YSP-I have the German BD, but have not had a chance to watch it. Have you seen the original film at all? I have not, but it appealed to me.

I haven't seen the movie but saw the trailer. It seemed a great nature movie.
I just hope there's any version that has English subtitles.

I'm American and I have this release. It is region free. There is actually very limited dialogue in the film. It's part visual documentary and the story is quite simple. You will understand the flow just fine without subs.

BTW, because the dialogue was so limited, I don't think there was any problem with the German dub. However, I find it strange that the original track was omitted.

Hello,
Are you SURE this is region free? Everywhere else online I see it listed as region 2. I looked pretty extensively yesterday and your post is the only place I have seen that says it's region free. I would really like to have this on Bluray but am reluctant to spend 20 Euros + shipping and end up with a disc I can't play.

Just asked a german member who owns this disc:

The backcover says locked to region B - but the disc definitely works on his region A player.

Only german audio of course...

And! please be aware of the fact that the disks contains (before the menu) some PAL encoded trailers which could cause you guys some trouble?! They could be skipped (menu key doesn't work).

Greets!

I can also confirm region free - the disc plays fine with my player set to region A or B. But nevertheless, I wouldn't recommend the disc because of the missing French audio track. The existence of the original audio track is a crucial feature IMHO - no matter how much dialogue there is.

Thanks. I agree completely about language tracks. I always MUCH prefer hearing the original language (imagine DAS BOOT or DOWNFALL in any language but German...blasphemy!) I don't mind subtitles because my hearing isn't too good and I usually use them anyway.

This particular film I wanted in BR because the scenery is so incredibly beautiful. I saw the English dub DVD on Netflix and thought the dialog/narration was ultimately not that important and in my opinion really didn't add much to the movie. In fact, to me at times it was distracting. The plot can be readily figured out without knowing what is being said regardless of what language you speak. The essence of this film is visual. Of course, we all have our own opinion.

Thank you again for the verification. I will order it tonight.

Do you know any "U.S. user friendly" websites where I can order it? Amazon.DE has it but I don't read any German and don't know how difficult it would be to order from there.

Of course . But maybe I'd give the French blu-ray a try instead. I think I'll be getting the French disc in addition to my German disc, but I'll wait for a price drop on that one.

Unfortunately, I don't.

The German amazon site is basically the same as amazon.com or amazon.co.uk. I'm sure you will be able to place your order, even if you don't speak any German. You might want to use babelfish to translate (example), but I think it won't work for complete pages during the ordering process. Also buttons won't be translated, but they are basically the same as with the other amazons. Maybe this and this will help too.

If you have a question, don't hesitate to ask me .

Thanks for your reply and comments. I guess my obvious question would be is the French release region free as well?
Also, do you know anything about the French BR SURVIVRE AVEC LES LOUPS? It is a relatively similar film and I would also like to have it in BR but have the same problem as all the ads for it say it is region B. Do you know if this is region free too? If you like DER FUCHS... you would probably like this too (and, mercifully, it is in the original French, but I don't think it has any subtitles other than French).

Sorry, I tend to forget about the region code, because of my region free player . I don't know if the French disc is region free and I wouldn't count on it, as it is a Disney release. So I think, it would be too risky for you.

No, I don't know anything about that disc. But I'm quite sure, that TF1 releases usually are locked to region B.

I also own the French blu-ray now and can confirm, that it is region free too (I checked region A and B).

The PQ of the French release is great too. It also comes with an impressively high video bitrate (it's constantly around 40.000 kbps (AVC), but I didn't do a full scan). It comes with a French 5.1 DTS-HD MA audio track (plus a DD track). I can't comment on PAL content, but there are some trailers at the beginning. Optional French subtitles only.

The disc comes in a thin cardboard case - I think it's supposed to be eco friendly.

After all, I'd recommend the French release over the German release - mainly because of the original audio track.
