Just wondering when the first player is due out.
Right now I think Samsung is going to be the first to release in Canada. They were suggesting sometime near the end of June. see here: http://www.bluraylive.com/_forum/viewtopic.php?t=2 Will Sony have one out before then? If so where can we get it? G |

I believe Samsung's player comes out June 23-25 and Sony's should come out at the end of August. I can't wait either. Been hungry for one since I first heard about them!

Samsung - 6/25
Sony - 8/15 Pioneer - either 6/25 or as late as November based on who you listen to ![]() Panasonic - September So it does seem quite likely the Samsung will be first. That should give Samsung a lot of sales that they otherwise wouldn't have. |

I hope your wright NYG, however for a 1,000$ I think the majority are going to go whith the 500 Toshiba, and than wait for the PS3. I did read a report that Samsung and pansonic are not happy about the PS3 cost and might delay the release of there players, I just dont know what to make of it? If I were Panasonic and Samsung I think I would be upset as well to be undercut by half the price of a Blu-ray player, take a look at this article It says Blu-ray might not be coming out this summer!

My point was just that since the Samsung may be the only option available at launch it will sell, whereas if say the Sony was available at the same time most people would probably buy it instead. You are right though that many will wait for the PS3 but those aren't really the early adopter types. EA's will not wait six months, a lot of them will be buying the Samsung. Just as with HD DVD, no one is waiting for a better player to come along. I realize the price is a big issue but and surely Samsung realized the PS3 wouldn't cost more than their player does. It's up to Samsung to lower the price of their player, something which I'm quite certain they'll do when the PS3 comes out. In the meantime they'll be counting on winning the support of EA's like me.

I just don't have much confidence in Samsung.
Frankly speaking, I don't view them much higher than I do Toshiba and LG. Have we yet to see Samsung make a good DVD player? Their track record has been downright abysmal in that regard. The 840 and 940 series, just for starters. It would be nice to see them come out with a solid product on this front, considering how critical it is in terms of a successful launch and timing (first out of the gate if it holds)...but, I'm not sure I'd bet the house on them. |

I have samsung lcd tv and I can't complain about it . As far as blu ray goes, samsung seems attractive to me just because it seems smaller than the other players and plays cd's. Of course I will wait to pass judgement when there is a final comparison

I had a Samsung upconverting DVD player for a while... then realized how bad it was. It didn't display all levels of black or white from the HDMI out, only through component (just like Toshiba's HD-DVD player... which sadly enough does look better through component feed). I also had a Samsung projection TV way back in the day, the convergence errors were god awful and not a single repair man could fix it... then we got a panasonic one... which had major red push issues, the reds would just bleed over into other colors. Then we ended up with this nice Sony 57" 16:9 rear projection CRT. All of this has led me to want the Sony Blu-Ray player, just because I trust them more (or I'd get the pioneer, but now I am hearing that wont come out until November, which I believe considering when I called to ask about the player they couldn't tell me any of the specs or anything). Anywho, I hope that the blu-ray players fix where the HD-DVD player(s) went wrong (clipping the whites and blacks, terrible loading time, supposedly overheating but I've never experienced that, but I did get a bad Van Helsing disc). I also hope all of us early adopters can upgrade to HDMI 1.3 using a firmware uprgade.

I would pay more for the Pioneer if it was available. The problem is I don't see how I can avoid temptation at this point since I literally just ordered a Sony Ruby, curved stewart scope screen 10' wide, and an ISCO III lens. I am going to be dying to see Underworld evolutions in 2.35 scope glory on Blu Ray....
I would feel bad paying fo a $1000 piece of crap just to use for 6 months and then get like $200 on ebay for it. Would help if we could get at least a 20% discount. I mean cmon, all electronics are 40-50 point margins. Those players only cost dealers $500-$600 max. No reason somebody can't sell it for $750.00... damn all they are doing is shipping the damn thing, drop shipping in some case... sheeze!! I'm telling you we should all register an AV company and just get this stuff from distribution ourselves. I plan on doing that in a few months actually... How about A/V Extreme Designs.... who cares!! About the PS3... They have a cell processor in there... that could be used to make an outstanding Blu Ray player if so desired. You won't see that kind of Horsepower even in the $1800 Pioneer. The cell has something like 8 cores I believe... Last edited by Health Nut; 06-04-2006 at 03:54 PM. |

I hear ya Health Nut. I never thought my first BD player would be a Samsung but with it likely to be the only option available at launch that's exactly what I'll be buying. I don't like the idea of losing money selling it a few months later when I pick up a better player but that's my only real option since I too can't resist temptation. We've been waiting long enough for Blu-ray. We need it now!

If we can get 30% off the Pioneer that would be the way to go...
