Default Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Press Release!

Hey Gang! This is probably old news by now (it hit my inbox a few hours ago while I was out! LOL) - Mostly specs for Order of the Phoenix, but also stuff about the boxed set! Weeeeeeeeeeee!!:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

“A feast for the eyes…magical movie-making!”

Larry King, CNN

FLYING ONTO DVD FOR THE HOLIDAYS

HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX

AVAILABLE DECEMBER 11 FROM

WARNER HOME VIDEO

Available on DVD, HD DVD Combo

and Blu-ray Disc day and date

Burbank, CA, September 17, 2007 – The rebellion begins in Harry Potter’s fifth year at Hogwarts and no Muggle will want to miss the excitement when Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix arrives on DVD this December 11th from Warner Home Video. In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Lord Voldemort has returned but the Ministry of Magic is doing everything it can to keep the wizarding world from knowing the truth – including appointing Ministry official Dolores Umbridge as the new Defense Against the Darks Arts professor at Hogwarts. When Umbridge refuses to teach practical defensive magic, Ron and Hermione convince Harry to secretly train a select group of students for the wizarding war that lies ahead. A terrifying showdown between good and evil awaits in this enthralling film version of the fifth novel in J.K. Rowling’s series. Prepare for battle!.

From acclaimed director David Yates (BBC’s State of Play, Upcoming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince), Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix brings back the ensemble cast including Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter series, upcoming December Boys), Emma Watson (Harry Potter series) and Rupert Grint (Harry Potter series, Driving Lessons) as well as two-time Academy Award Winner Maggie Smith (Gosford Park, A Room With A View, Harry Potter film series), Academy Award Winner Emma Thompson (Sense and Sensibility, Howards End), Academy Award Nominee Ralph Fiennes (Schindler’s List, The English Patient), Alan Rickman (Love Actually, Die Hard, Harry Potter film series), and Gary Oldman (Batman Begins, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire). Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix also introduces Academy Award Nominees Helena Bonham Carter (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride) and Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake, Freedom Writers).

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will be available for sell-through pricing on Single Disc in widescreen and full frame formats for $28.98 SRP and on 2-Disc Special Edition DVD in widescreen format for $34.99 SRP.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will also be available on HD/DVD Combo for $35.99 SRP and on Blu-ray disc for $35.99 SRP.

Muggles and wizards alike will also enjoy a Harry Potter Limited Edition DVD Gift Set, also available December 11th. The 12-disc Limited Edition Gift Set comes in a magnificent collectible ‘suitcase’, and includes two-disc editions of all five Harry Potter films – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire -- and, for the first time on DVD, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The Harry Potter Limited Edition DVD Gift Set will be available in Standard Definition for $119.97 SRP and on HD DVD and Blu-ray for $149.99 SRP.

“The Harry Potter films just keep getting better and better! Fans will love this latest big screen movie – a terrific retelling of J.K. Rowling’s important 5th book in the amazing journey of our favorite teen wizard.”

Bill Zwecker, CBS-TV

“Big thrills.”

Claudia Puig, USA TODAY

SYNOPSIS

In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry returns for his fifth year of study at Hogwarts only to discover that much of the wizarding community has been led to believe that the story of the teenager’s recent encounter with the evil Lord Voldemort is a lie, putting Harry’s integrity in question. Worse, the Minister for Magic, Cornelius Fudge, has appointed a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, the duplicitous Professor Dolores Umbridge. But Professor Umbridge’s “Ministry-approved” course of defensive magic leaves the young wizards woefully unprepared to defend themselves against the Dark Forces threatening them, so at the prompting of his friends Hermione and Ron, Harry is convinced to take matters into his own hands. Meeting secretly with a small group of students who name themselves “Dumbledore’s Army,” Harry teaches them how to defend themselves against the Dark Arts, preparing the courageous young wizards for the extraordinary battle that lies ahead.

If this includes only DD I will have to cancel my order with Warner Bros. I will not spend almost $90 on a half-ass product.

Hopefully they tweak the bitrate for the BD too . . . these are some long movies, I REALLY hope we don't get the same HD DVD smoothies.

mm that makes me wonder if the "Spanish DD 5.1" will be Spanish Spanish or American Spanish. (They include Catalan 5.1 too, so that points towards it being Spanish Spanish)

My goodness. PCM + 12 languages in DD5.1? That's over 12Mbps for audio alone.

Wow. That's freaking awesome, but I hope HD DVD doesn't have anywhere close to this number, otherwise we're going to get a real low bitrate encode for the video.

enjoy
gandalf

Edit: I was assuming 16-bit PCM above. If it's 24-bit PCM, it will be over 14Mbps.

Great. That doesn't sound like it's going to be any worse than the usual Warner title then.

By the way, this disc has both Japanese audio and subtitle. Isn't this the first BD released in the U.S. with those? If so, it might indicate a major paradigm shift for Warner, as they seem to have decided the "one disc for the world" benefit is greater than potential lost sales for the higher-priced Japanese version due to imports.

enjoy

Funny how this backcover art shows several non-English audiotracks, while stating at the same time that it should not be sold or rented outside of the US or Canada Who in the US or Canada is going to listen to the Dutch, German, Flemish or Swedish tracks?

I noticed, as I was wondering if this back cover was for the US release or for the European release which is about a month before the US release. I first expected the European release looking at the audio tracks, but that other statement seems to make the US back cover.

what you need to realise is that it is cheaper to make one encode and one master. Then the rest does not matter. For example I went to the store and I could get Wild Hogs in a wrapper with only the English title or one with the English and French. Whichever I got the disk inside was exactly the same. By doing that it has (admittedly minimal) added value and saves them money.
