Default London Drugs - Great Selection, But Highly Overpriced

I went into London Drugs today, and I've noticed they've always had a great selection of titles. Lot's of boutique labels like Shout! and Criterion, as well as big studio catalog titles. It's also nice to see their slipcovers and box sets not damaged, like I tend to see in Walmart and Best Buy. For me personally, I've passed up on buying anything simply because I despise bilingual packaging. The other negative is the high prices they charge.

I'm not sure how much they're marking up their prices based on their actual cost, but as an example from today, Ford v Ferrari, $32.99 for the DVD only? I'm sorry, but that's just extremely overpriced for a stand alone DVD, even if it's a fairly new release. $39.99 for the Blu-ray, and $47.99 for the 4K edition! This is starting to feel like the days of laserdisc collecting before DVD existed.

Granted I've alway felt that we've been undervaluing movies as a culture in the last 10-15 years, especially since we now live in a age of $4.99 Blu-ray bins at Walmart. This kind of thing just makes movies throwaway entertainment for the masses, and they don't appreciate film like the days before movies were so readily available. But still, I think $33 for a DVD copy of Ford v Ferrari is a bit much, $20 to $25 at the most, $30 to $35 for the Blu-ray, and $35 to $40 for the 4K would be much more reasonable. For the prices London Drugs charges, I could probably order this same movies from U.S. stores online, get all english packaging, and with shipping, customs and the exchange, probably still get it cheaper.

I love that London Drugs still sells physical media, they even sell vinyl, but they're just far too expensive.
