Cruel Intentions commissioned for pilot TV show set 15 years after teen movie... but will Reese, Ryan and Sarah Michelle feature?

Cruel Intentions, the iconic teen romance movie which made global stars of Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon, is set for the small screen.
The film's TV series sequel has been picked up by NBC for a pilot order, which could subsequently result in the teenage romance making it into production.

‘Cruel Intentions’ TV Revival in the Works at NBC

NBC’s version would take a modern spin on the late ’90s cultural phenomenon that brought Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe and Selma Blair to worldwide fame.

The present-day “Cruel Intentions” reboot will center around the 16-year-old son of the late Sebastian Valmont (played by Phillippe in the film) and Annette Hargrove (played by Witherspoon), named Bash Casey. Upon finding his late father’s journal, Bash learns of the family legacy he didn’t know existed. In search of answers, he trades his small-town Kansas upbringing for a scholarship to the prestigious Brighton Preparatory Academy in San Francisco and soon finds himself in a world of sex, money, power and corruption he never could have imagined.

Roger Kumble is attached to direct the pilot, and co-write with scribes Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross who will serve as exec producers on the potential series from Sony Television, along with Neal Moritz and Original Film’s Pavun Shetty who will exec produce through their Sony TV deal. AMBI will also produce.

The series had been pitched around to many networks this month and quickly garnered competitive interest, before ultimately landing at NBC with a script commitment plus penalty.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Courted To Reprise Her Role In NBC Pilot

NBC’s Cruel Intentions reboot, which was just greenlighted to pilot, picks up 15 years after the cult 1999 movie, which starred Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Michelle Gellar. It follows the beautiful and cunning Kathryn Merteuil — the character played in the film by Gellar — as she vies for control of Valmont International as well as the soul of Bash Casey, the son of her step-brother, the late Sebastian Valmont (Phillippe), and Annette Hargrove (Witherspoon).

What you guys think of it? I really want to see how this will be and I hope it to be be good.
I really hope Sarah Michelle returns, it would be great to see Kathryn back in action. One of my favorite *****es, impossible to hate her hahaha

FOX tried a prequel that failed. I assume this will too. The sequels sucked and the original is a good stand alone story with no continuation needed

The second film was not bad never saw any of the other sequels.

The original is great and it will be interesting to see this new story, especially if Kathryn (with Sarah Michelle reprising the role, of course) returns, she's the soul of Cruel Intentions.

I'll watch but I really wish she wouldnt do this. This is most likely going to be terrible and this should be beneath her. It's going to be sad when this is her 3rd TV show in a row to flop.

Why isn't she being hired for films? I don't get it.

Yeah there is even an episode in season 2 if I remember right that was pretty much the exact plot of cruel intentions.

Since the movie ended with

I really don't see where a continuation has much room to go. Unless maybe it's about Catherine's children playing the same games they did? The Prequel series they tried was pretty awful.

Guessing she prefers TV shows to films but I am hoping this will be good, she does deserve to have a TV show that lasts again for the first time since 2003.

Can't wait to see Kathryn back in action, best character of the Cruel Intentions series.
It will be cool to see her trying to be in control of Valmont International and trying to seduce her nephew (I bet she's gonna try to do this).
I read that she's married with wealthy guy called Pascal Barrett and is the stepmother of Cassidy (Samantha Logan), daughter of Naomi (Sophina Brown), Pascal's ex-wife. Also, she ''works in a youth rehabilitation movement and is also involved in a local private school. However, her quiet life is shaken with the arrival of Bash Casey, the son of the woman she wronged more than a decade ago.''

I guess that this one will air only in 2017. Or you guys think we can see the pilot this year yet?

I'm oddly very excited for this, good on SMG for coming back, there's actually something to this now. But they need Reesey back, I know she'd never do it in a million years but it won't be the same without her. If his character wasn't dead, Ryan Phillippe would probably come back for free.

Well, I read that she works in a rehab center for youngers but has a lot of secrets. I also read something about her and Pascal (her husband), but I can't remember right now what was about. I guess (and hope) she's still the cokehead b**ch from the film. She needs to be evil, I can't imagine any other villain for the Cruel Intentions world that isn't Kathryn. Also, I hope she comes back with that ''blessed'' crucifix hahaha

Peter Gallagher Cast in NBC’s ‘Cruel Intentions’ Revival

Peter Gallagher has been cast in NBC’s adaptation of “Cruel Intentions,” Variety has learned exclusively.

“The O.C.” alum joins Sarah Michelle Gellar as a series regular in the pilot. In one of the biggest casting announcements this pilot season, Gellar is reprising her role as Kathryn Merteuil in the TV adaptation of the ’90s film.

Gallagher will play Edward Valmont, the father of the late Sebastian (Phillippe), who is described as a sexy, beguiling, sophisticated, powerful and ruthless billionaire hotel magnate with fingers in many far-reaching financial pies — some legal, some not so much. Edward is delighted to discover that he’s got a long-lost grandson in the newly arrived Bash Casey, and once the DNA test proves his claim, Edward immediately starts grooming Bash for a life of impossible wealth and opportunity.
