During an extended interview with French site Ecranlarge.com, Eric Legay, marketing director for Universal France, revealed some of the catalog movies that the studio intends to release on Blu-ray in 2011, which prominently include the Jurassic Park trilogy and Brian DePalma's Scarface, along with some westerns and more Hitchcock.
The studio will also release some westerns on Blu-ray, including Winchester 73, Shenandoah and High Plains Drifter (apparently one of two movies starring Clint Eastwood that the studio plans to release this year). Universal will also continue releasing Alfred Hitchcock movies on Blu-ray, but Legay noted that the flow of titles might be limited by the need to remaster them with the same level of quality as Psycho. Can't wait for JP on Blu. Even the DVD upscaled looks amazing still even after almost 20 years. The dinos still look as good or better than most modern attempts to make dinos look real. It is unreal how amazing of a job they did back in the early 90s.

+1. I think Jurassic Park's special effects put most modern movies' effects to shame. I can't wait!! I just hope this really happens, and that we see a U.S. release.

I have just three movie posters on the wall in our living room/home theater room. They've been there since 1993 or so (I got into home theater in 1980 using Laserdiscs as my source, a 27" Sony Trinitron as the display, and a hafler dematrixing circuit for surround). Those three movie posters are: Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Jurassic Park. At the time (1993), those were three of the greatest movies of all time (as far as I was concerned).
With Blu-ray now over 3 years old, it really is quite ridiculous that Star Wars, Raiders and Jurassic Park haven't already been released on Blu-ray. But at least we can be comforted by the fact that two of the three are coming this year. But what about the Indiana Jones Trilogy? Mark |

Two of the movies I've looked most forward to. Jurassic Park was an epic movie for me when it came out and it's a must have. I did like The Lost World and I look forward to seeing it again, it's been a while. I didn't care a whole lot for Jurassic Park III but I'll gladly own as part of the trilogy.
Scarface is another personal classic. Hopefully it gets a May release at the latest. |
