I could be mistaken, but I believe it's the same as the 1-Disc release down in the states.

If you're looking for the extras-filled No Country disc in Canada, you will NOT find it. I had to import mine (thank you ebay!). The disc here is the 1st release, with only 2 small extras I believe.

thanks for the responses.

So it's the same a/v and extras as the first US release then? Alliance seem to have a few 1080i transfers going around, just wanted to make sure this was a direct port.

The ONLY 1080i transfers from Alliance, are on discs/films that still have no blu-ray release in the US.

Wait, so the one that says Special Edition on the cover and is a combo, that's the same as the 1-disc US edition? Because the site listing shows a slip that looks like the steelbook, and that was the full-fledged SE, and there seems to have been a version in Canada not labeled Special Edition...

Fingers crossed the thing I just bought wasn't a waste of my money. The questions and answers in this thread were both posted before the release dates on the site database for the Steelbook or the Special Edition.

EDIT: Found a listing on iNetvideo which confirms I'm all good. Will scan and add this cover to the database when my item arrives. Woo-hoo!

For Alliance releases, you will generally be safe if it has the "combo" banner at the top. Those ones are in 1080p and usually identical to the US releases.

Alliance is/was such a frustrating company though. You would think when they release an upgraded/remastered title, they would take the old release out of print. But that's not the case - so you will find tons of copies today of the old releases of "Gangs of New York", "Sin City", "The English Patient", "Good Will Hunting", etc out on store shelves.

The question in this case was not whether it was identical to the US release but which one. This one appears to be identical to the now OOP US Collector's Edition (with more extras) and I scored it on eBay for $4~ plus shipping.

Makes me think of the batch of DVDs that Sony released near the beginning of DVD as WS / FS flippers and then re-released 90% of them as FS-only one-sided discs...with the SAME UPC.
