After director Fritz Lang vaulted to prominence with such masterpieces of German cinema as Metropolis and M, he brought his art to Hollywood films, including Fury, Ministry of Fear, The Woman in the Window and more trenchant tales of innocents caught in a web of seeming guilt. His last U.S. movie is this intriguing film noir about a novelist (Dana Andrews) out to expose the injustices of capital punishment. Working with his fiancée’s (Joan Fontaine) father, a newspaper publisher (Sidney Blackmer), he frames himself for murder, intending to produce exonerating evidence at the last moment.

This is great news.

I have the Warner Archive DVD-R, so I'm glad that they are putting an officially-pressed Blu-ray out there.

I appreciate this isn't necessarily one of Lang's best, but I have a very soft spot for it; a personal favourite.

Great news!

I'm always happy to see more Fritz Lang make it to blu-ray. Here's hoping for Rancho Notorious and Fury at some point.

Any reason this and the other new Lang titles aren't available on Amazon? They were on there for Preorder and now no longer available.

It's not. The plot is definitely far-fetched but wouldn't be out of place amongst all of the 80s-90s thrillers with similarly contrived and incredulous storylines and plot twists like Basic Instinct, Shattered, No Way Out, Malice, etc.

Having watched this last weekend, I have to concur with the site review. Apart from the plotting, stylistically this was the most nondescript Lang film I have seen, felt like a TV movie a lot of the time.

Even low tier Lang deserves more than 1 star out of 5.

The scale of 5 stars isn't strictly in a myopic Lang world.

If you double the scale to 10, that would be like giving the film a 2 on IMDB, and that is absurd.

I just checked what I gave it and it was a 3.5/10 so yeah probably closer to 2/5 in my book. Obviously this is all very subjective but I do think this one is a stinker, Lang or not.

Awful, awful film. Just finished it and couldn't believe Lang actually made this. I had similar feelings about While The City Sleeps.
