Default The PT Anderson Blus

So I get that PTA is overseeing the blu-ray releases of Magnolia and Punch Drunk Love (did I hear Boogie Nights in there too?).

My question is more focused on TWBB. Are there any clues as to we've already gotten the best release we can hope for for a while, or is there something planned already with a bit more added in the special features department. That $10 price tag from Amazon right now is telling me it's time to upgrade that ol' DVD now.

Any info is appreciated!

I have not read anything regarding another edition of TWBB. The review here gives it high marks for everything except the special features. Maybe they'll make a special anniversary edition at some point. TWBB Review

I agree with this statement.. When it finally graces us, I will call it an official holiday that will call for a complete day by myself.. I will tune out the rest of the world and think of nothing but seeing this film in a hopefully very small audience...

Well said. It's been a long time waiting for The Master and i can't wait to finally see it. There Will Be Blood is the only movie i've seen more than once at the theatre in the last 15 years.

Punch Drunk Love on Blu-ray?
Yes, please.

Powers that be, take note. Looks like there's a bit of a pattern here...

Sony was working on Punch-Drunk Love a long time ago. I think they're either waiting for The Master to be released to do some sort of tie-in, or maybe they licensed it to Twilight Time or Criterion.

I've thought for a while that Hard Eight would make a good Criterion release. I picked up the dvd a few years ago for cheap, but I think it's now oop.

Sony has almost completely abandoned releasing back-catalog titles themselves. The only significant title likely to appear this year from them is Lawrence Of Arabia. They have licensed some titles to Image, although even that avenue seems to have dried up recently. The Criterion relationship yielded Anatomy Of A Murder last month, but not much else in recent months.

So I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for any more Sony/Columbia back catalog titles to appear on Blu for a while.

That is a bummer man, what are a few of the bigger back-catalog movies that Sony has not released and what are a few that they have released? Thanks

I've been waiting in vain for PANIC ROOM, my favorite Fincher film, to hit BD. I was convinced it would be released to tie in with the theatrical or video releases of Sony's SOCIAL NETWORK or DRAGON TATTOO. Now I've given up. MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING has also never been released on BD in the US, only the UK.

Loads of big Sony hits from the 2000s/1990s are MIA...

A not-so-great, dated-seeming HD transfer of Punch-Drunk Love is on Netflix, which...if Sony had a finished HD master lying around that Anderson had overseen, I imagine that's what they'd give to Netflix.

Some of the Sony titles I have been waiting for are:

Ali
Bugsy
The Age Of Innocence
Sense And Sensibility
The Remains Of The Day
Sleepless In Seattle
A League Of Their Own
Casualties Of War
Philadelphia
Postcards From The Edge
The Big Chill
Tootsie
The China Syndrome
Shampoo
The Last Detail

That's probably enough to give you an idea of the problem - and I didn't even list any pre-1970 titles.

Excluding titles licensed to Image and Criterion, the only titles actually released by Sony that I've bought in the past year or more are:

Taxi Driver
Das Boot
Legends Of The Fall
The Bridge On The River Kwai
