Default BUY the LN-S3252D or wait for 1080p

I’ve been waiting to buy an HDTV for 3 years now
I was looking for something in the price range of 1000-2000
And I finally found the Samsung LN-S3252D
4000:1 contrast ratio\ 8ms \ HDCP \ 2 HDMI inputs
And I can get a really good deal on it A REALLY GOOD inside DEAL

I was about to rush out and get it but then I realized OH what about 1080p
1920 x 1080 resolution TVs not the crummy 1080i up converters

I’ve got a 360 and I plan to buy a PS3 first day
And Blu Ray movies are as important to me as the gaming so you bet I want the best experience

Major Factors
-1000-2500 price range
-30-34 inch widescreens are the only ones to fit in my home theatre stand and I don’t want any bigger size
-I only want LCD

Things that I know
1080p gaming wont happen for a while if not never happen on the ps3
-you can watch blu ray movies at 1080p depending on if the movie companies record there movies at 1080i or 1080p

Things that I don’t know
- Is 1080p really going to have that much impact over 1080i in terms of movies and actual 1080i signals
- Are there even going to be 1920 x 1080p 30inch TVs and at that size is there even a point?
- If anyone knows when Sony and other TV companies are releasing there new TVs and any specs on them that would help the most (TVS that are true 1920 x 1080 and 26 to 32 inch)

Most importantly help me decide whether I should buy this Samsung TV now or wait for the 1080p TVs and obviously 1080p signals such as ps3 Blu Ray players to be tested on them. Also if I were to wait what are the chances of the TVs coming out in an affordable price (1500-2500) at 30,32 inches and how long would it take.

I doubt there is any difference at the moment, as there are no 1080p sources (consumer) available yet. The Xbox 360 apparently does output in 1080p but I think the game will need a little more work to exploit 1080p.
As ti what you should by that's up to you. Are you prepared to wait up to 12 months? Remember lcd, dlp, lcos, etc etc all can ONLY disply progressive (p) as in 1080p. So for 1080i I would suggest appart from a couple of monitors it will be down converted.

The longer you can stand to wait. The better.

For 1080p, I certainly wouldn't waste my time buying a display like that unless I knew at least one of the inputs would accept native 1080p signals.

Actually, I believe that at E3 they were showing Gran Turismo HD which was in full 1080P. I'm sure there will be others to follow.

I'm pretty sure that the max rez on the Xbox 360 is 1080i. Thus, one of the many PS3 advantages.

Correct. Barring some kind of often believe/rumored "Xbox 360 second generation" box that some people have speculated about...no 1080p for the Xbox360 in its present form whatsoever.

The good news is that tv sets with 1080p resolution and inputs are just starting to come out. I believe Sharp lcd of 37" is the first one http://www.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/shar...-lc37d90u.html

Samsung and Sony panels will follow suit during summer
http://www.samsung.com/Products/TV/L...4696_final.pdf

dlp sets will also come out with 1080p connectivity, mainly from Samsung , Toshiba and Mitsubishi

And let's not forget the first plasma set with 1080p resolution which I can only assume will also have 1080p connctivity http://www.pioneerusa.com/pna/plasma...043890,00.html

As you can , 1080p sets are almost here to purchase but like anything new they are not cheap. The cheapest and smallest from Sharp at 37" goes around 3k in online stores.

So as far as your decision is concerned, it's really personal. These new sets are probably worth it but only if you can afford them. They will set you back a lot of cash but bring you all the goods to last a long time. But it's on you to choose .

Ok I’ve read all the posts thanks everyone for the input
I’ve pretty much decided to wait for a 1080p LCD in size 32
The Samsung LN-S4696D Looks amazing I’m praying that they will make a similar TV in size 32\ and the LN-S3252D Was just released NEW so I’m guessing Samsung is done releasing new TVs for a while so that might mean a long Wait
-If anyone has any info on upcoming LCD projects please let me know

I don’t even mind spending 3000 but I need a size 32 that’s the only size I want (Long Story)
It’s been 3 years I’ve been waiting for an HDTV and now I finally have a considerable amount of money, I can wait till December and even till next April but that’s it

So does anyone know were to go to look for upcoming TVs like a site that posts an article up as soon as the company announces the project?

i translated that jap page under the ppic that you showed
The TFT liquid crystal panels for 40 type full HD corresponding TV (with respect to the left) with TFT liquid crystal panels for 32 type full HD corresponding television (with respect to the right). Under HD corresponding panel (1,366×768 dot). Furthermore, the TFT liquid crystal panel for full HD corresponding TV of 32 types was not published to the catalog of Samsung Electronics yet

but doesnt this mean (1,366×768 dot) that its not full 1920 x 1080p

and under the samsung section it says

CD the panel is in the midst of mass-producing. Samsung Electronics begins mass production 2006 1st quarter.

so doesnt that just mean its the tv i was talking about buying

Hi, I think what it says is that full hd screen is below the hd corresponding one which is that (1,366×768 dot). I guess it goes to show the difference but it's hard to see in a small image . And full hd is 1080p so it's not that tv set that you mentioned.

no idea when next year and neither do they know. It depends on many factors . Since it's long way off I'd consider what is available right now because you never know how plans of product shipments change.

http://www.hardwarezone.com/news/view.php?id=4669&cid=6

this being said theyre avoiding creating a 32inch 1080p tv

so is it almost safe to say that companies are not intrested in equipping theyre future 32inch lcd panels with full 1920 x 1080p resolutions?

-its not just sony , toshiba and sharp have all planned new lines of tvs inclduing 32inch tvs an none of them have 1080p only the 37inchers have 1080p
