Germany Hinter Kaifeck

Kinowelt are set to release Esther Gronenborn's Hinter Kaifeck a.k.a Kaifeck Murder (2009) on October 16th.

Hardtimes:
Quote:
Germany’s “Kaifeck Murder” follows a trajectory that will ring familiar to fans of “The Wicker Man” (the 1973 original version that is, not the recent Nicholas Cage travesty); in this case, Marc (Benno Fürmanna) is a grizzled photographer sent off to the remote village of Kaifeck to cover a bizarre annual tradition that sees villagers dress up as monsters in an effort to scare off the devil.

With his young son in tow, Marc quickly realizes that things are off-kilter in this secluded village; he is plagued by intense visions, sleepwalks mysteriously each night, and receives little help from the superstitious and secretive villagers. As he gets pulled into the story of a horrific, generation-old mass murder in the village, Marc attempts to crack the mystery at the heart of the slaying, while uncovering his own role in the madness surrounding him.

Director Esther Gronenborn ratchets up the tension expertly in this sleek supernatural thriller, culminating in a breakneck ending that rivals that of ‘The Wicker Man” in terms of over-the-edge small village insanity.
Creepy and effective, “Kaifeck Murder” is an old-fashioned horror film in the truest sense, and is definitely worth seeking out for those interested in a great Hitchcockian -type scare.
