United Kingdom Tesco

My local Tesco is being re-organised, and the entertainmemt section is now a bit smaller than before. Previously they had 2 full sections of Blu-rays, one for chart (1 - 40) and one for catalogue/offers. Now it is limited to one row of chart titles (1 - 10 only). When I asked if this was temporary while the re-organistaion was taking place, I was told that this was permanent.

Obviously stores can't compete with on-line stores (even their own), but I would regularly buy discs there if there wasn't a great difference in the price.

Is this happening at other Tesco stores, and if so, is this a further indication of the demise of being able to buy Blu-rays (and other physical media) in shops?

Tesco instore is always shite and their website is better.

ASDA instore is always shite and their 'new' website is totally shite.

It's like anything these stores sell the actual items are meaningless and there's no way they'll invest in stock they don't think they can shift. Sad thing is -for ASDA- they've missed a real opportuntity leaving their TheHut contract but maybe they just want a shite online selection just so they can tell shareholders "We have our own webstore now".

Nothing compared to the shite fest gamestation turned their site into.
Looks like a 3yr old was let loose with crayons after being fed coke and sweets.

We have three or four Tesco's within a short drive and two of them have very big entertainment sections, apart from the charts most of the stuff is special offers while some have TV sections (they used to have horror, comedy sections as well). A lot of stuff is overpriced but the special offers usually start off at 1-2 pounds. The Blu's are usually limited to chart and bargain chart sections. They've been increasing their Pre-owned sections for games but they're massively overpriced (to me at least). I hope our stores don't cut back and start filling the aisles with toasters and microwaves.

ASDA has always been okay where we live but the local one is a bit limited on the Blu front.

My local Asda ( well 15 miles away) has only a few chart Blu Ray's the same goes for Morrisons and as for Tesco it just has the two sections one with the top 40 chart and the other has about 10 that used to be in the top 40 a few months back.

Default Experiences with Tesco Entertainment?

I pre-ordered the Jaws steelbook and Harry Potter Wizards Collection from Tesco Entertainment, as I can use my staff discount. They've taken the money, but haven't dispatched anything, the Jaws steelbook will -dispatch- within 4-5 days and the Wizards Collection with dispatch within 1-2 weeks, what the hell??

Has anyone pre-ordered anything from the site and had any problems?

everything i have pre-ordered from tesco entertanment has always had the money taken the day i recieved it or within the next few days afterwards
i always recieved e-mail sayin the item has been sent out on the same day it gets to me.

never had money taken before the item has been dispatched

the only problems i have ever had was that they sent out nikita dvd (twice) when i ordered blu ray version

shot off e-mail to there ceo and got postage repaid + £10 e-wallet
he even rang me a couple of days later

there prices of late do seem abit higher that others, but there are a few gems in there

My local Tesco is quite large and only has about 1-2 fronts for Blu-Ray and DVD it's pretty poor.

On the other hand, my Sainsbury's is awesome. It's about 4 units for Blu-Ray and DVD and tons for games. Even the little local one in town is awesome. It's got 2 fronts for films and they always have the top 20 in there with a bunch of other decent Blu-Rays. (IE: Batman double-pack, Bourne Trilogy, etc.)

They only take payment when the item is dispatched however they do ring fence the funds for a few days after you place the order, Tesco have been my main go to retailer for over 2 years now thanks to their speedy deliveries and constant 15%-25% discount codes.

I have to say I've only ever bought one Blu Ray in a shop and I reckon I now have between 150 and 200 blu rays. It was the BTTF trilogy for £15 which I thought was a pretty good price. That was at my local Sainsbury's which has a range that pretty much matches it's DVD range and has a chart/new releases section, deals section and then a section for what's left over.

I think people who buy blu rays are obviously quite tech savvy which is probably why shops don't do so well as a lot of people who buy Blu Rays know to shop online to get better prices. As I said, some of the stuff in Sainsbury's is at a decent price but I've definitely been in a few HMVs and laughed at some of the ridiculous prices they charge for some of the Blu Rays I've owned. So even though I feel like the number of people buying blu rays in this country has gone up a lot even in the last year, I feel shops will still struggle. I also feel like shop prices stop people getting into blu ray. Friends of mine are often wowed by the PQ but say they can't afford to get into blu rays or it's not worth the expense. When I then tell them how cheaply I get most of my blu rays for they're generally shocked and I truly believe it's seeing the prices of blu rays in shops that makes them think that blu rays cost insane amounts.

Then there's the half of them that say they couldn't afford the initial cost of a blu ray player and I point out that they have a PS3

My local Tesco has about 5 different films on Blu-ray, I don't know why I ever bother looking. My local Morrison's had 2 Blu-rays in a DVD bargain bin.

My local has a Top 40 shelf as well as an additional shelf with 15/20 titles all around the £5-£10 mark. They've also acquired a little Disney section as well with a few Pixar titles.

I have 2 local Tesco stores, the closest being complete shite for Blus they have about 5!
The other was actually pretty good, it used to have a big Blu chart section then a Bargain Blu Chart then just like generic catalogue section but they have recently moved it all around and now there is a smaller chart section and a small end of isle catalogue section they completely got rid of the bargain chart. Really pissed me off even though blu-ray is becoming ever popular they think oooooooo lets make that section smaller! Who do they have in charge of these things obviously are not very qualified in marketing and stock movement!
