Wait for an HK release. Hong Kong releases usually have English subs.

Apparently there IS a live-action film of the original story coming out in Japan on 1st Dec., and I've started a thread here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/movies/153...ml#post3820729

I've been keeping track of it. Started a few threads myself. It looks incredible! I wonder if it'll get released in the U.S.? and how long it'll take to come out on Blu Ray?

Someone (mod) or myself will report it to the database when or before it is released. You can also try and search online stores like YesAsia later.

I check dddhouse & buyoyo as they're English-friendly HK-based DVD retailers.

if you want to know what's coming in HK, search for TELA, who certify the films for release.

No English subtitles like a lot of releases. The movie did get a theatrical release in Hong Kong though and the the Japanese release is normally ported over with English subtitles when it comes out on video. I'm just waiting for that release. I really want to see this movie!

I'm curious to see what people will think of this... I saw it (sans English subtitles) when I was in Japan at the beginning of the year, and was disappointed with it in some respects (surprisingly poor CGI -- ie. all of the planets looked the same) and pleased in others (the soundtrack has become one of my all-time favourites -- produced by Sato Naoki, the majesty of the original theme (without the cheesy jazzy bits) has been fleshed out). I'm dying to see it with understandable subtitles because although the overall story is the same, there were enough changes that warrant a proper translation to understand (my wife wasn't at all helpful...). Unfortunately, it showed its influences in many scenes but I'm still dying to see this again on blu-ray (with or without subtitles). The Japanese collector's edition looks like a pretty cool package.

I'm looking forward to this but I'm also looking forward to the U.S. version being made.
