Default Universal Horror Classics

When will they release the classic monster movies (Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Wolf Man) They would look amazing in hd

maybe with the release of the wolfman remake (very disappointing film) we can start getting the originals

They already released An American Werewolf in London on Blu, plus The Wolf Man on DVD when the remake was supposed to hit theaters. I think that Universal would've done it if they were able to.

I have the HD DVD version of American Werewolf in London. Very poor quality opening scene was making me lose hope, but PQ started to get better as the movie progressed. Not a stellar blu by any stretch of the imagination. Another one that should be inline for a remaster, but I bet the blu will be come direct of the same master as the HD one.

Me too, can't wait to get my hands on them. I have the HD DVD version of American Werewolf in London. Hopefully the blu will not be struck from the same master as PQwise much of it was quite poor but still better than the dvd version.

Yes, oh yes. One of my biggest disappointments was the original classic Wolf Man not coming to Blu thanks to the remake. Hopefully we get it when the remake comes to Blu or near Halloween.

I wouldn't be suprised if they released the classic wolfman on blu before the remake comes out...Was the remake really THAT disapointing?-haven't seen it yet...

well without giving anything away, it wasnt horrible, but i was expecting ALOT more from the film. it just didnt flow right. it couldnt decide if it was a suspensful or splatter film. it seemed very cheesy, and they complicated what was a simple story. and what really pisses me off is that for 2 scences (one with a bear and one with a deer) they used cartoony and cheap cgi rather than getting a real one, an animatronic or even a guy in bear suite which would have been more convincing IMO

Yes I would love for these classics to come out on Bluray! I love them all, especially "Black Lagoon" and "Dracula".

Any news?

Couple of things to remember. They are going to be mostly in that old, square presentation format like Wizard of Oz and Gone With The Wind. They will need a long time for restoration for each one due to age. But yeah, they should do a box set for sure.

Black Lagoon is a much later movie, but growing up in Florida, was kinda creepy when I saw it as a kid, lol. Anyway, it might be in wide screen format, that would be cool.

And let's not forget that both Creature from the Black Lagoon and its sequel Revenge of the Creature were both shot in 3D. With the Blu-ray 3D spec now finalized, and Hollywood supposedly rallying around it, Universal should not have any excuse not to release those two titles in HiDef 3D.

Don't hold your breath. And for the new 3D you will need a 3D ready TV and player and still have to wear the glasses. I haven't seen for sure if existing players will be backward compatible. Probably be a fad, many can't stand the effect for long periods of time without getting a headache and the reason for 3D is so the manufacturers can start charging higher prices for the new technology. Current HD TVs are so cheap now, hardly any profit margin anymore.

Well I think I will hold my breath. Hollywood has been talking up (and ramping up for) Blu-ray 3D for quite some time now, and at some point they are going to have to pony up some content. And these seem like perfect contenders. I've seen both of these titles numerous times on the big screen in dual-projector polarized 3D, and the 3D cinematography is simply outstanding.

I believe it's already been determined that new Blu-ray 3D discs will be backwardly compatible (in 2D) with existing hardware, it won't hurt the marketability for Universal to release the first two Creature films in 3D.
