Won't even happen for DVD. A pipe dream.

Too many problems with the design to make it viable. IE, where is the huge battery?

Its an interesting James Bondish/Transformers approach to something already done efficiently with portable DVD players (or even laptops). Don't see this happening either.

Now a portable blu-ray player complete with all conections needed to plug into any hdtv or tv. That would be interesting...

(Pro-blu signature under construction)

I don't think you'll need a huge battery. If i had to guess where the battery is I would say under the controller.

I seriously doubt you'll see many if any Blu players that are portable

There's no point on such a small screen and the power and processing requirements are huge. What you will see eventualy is managed copy versions for portable players

Eventually they'll be portable. When DVD is gone, people will still be hankering for portable. And that is one sweet-@$$ lookin' portable.

Alternatively :

1) DVD won't be gone [which is bad for HDM] due to be the viable portable media option.

or

2) Digital media succeeds as an avenue for portable playback.

My guess would be 2.

I fully believe that as far as portable media and rental goes that VOD and downloads are the future.

Most people just aren't going to pay to own something completely intanglible like that

I think there eventually will be a portable BD player. What is there going to be if DVD is gone and no portable players? It's not about the picture for portability. It's about what is going to be used for playing BD's on the go?

Then on the other hand, digital media is also another more viable option. However, I will not be paying double for a hard copy and a digital copy. Never. Hopefully we can rip our blus and make them portable.

I think there maybe a time when we see portable Blu players, but they won't utilize the full benifits of Blu, as WickyWoo pointed out. I do envision a large screen behind the front seats of a Rolls Royce Phantom Sedan, the screen facing the occupants in the back seats. Mounted high enough so you can access the bar, of course. You know, something that folds up into the ceiling then opens into a moon roof.
