I bought this disc today. Film is 89 mins, not 94 mins. Disc I think is BD50 as stated but feature only uses 26GB and there is 22.7 GB of emptiness on the disc! To my eyes the picture quality is disappointing as all the other blurays I've seen shot using the RED HD camera are incredible looking...and this is good but nothing more- some scenes look good- others poor. End credits of white lettering on black backround look completely out of focus.
Optimum (UK) are notorious for releasing sub-standard blurays so I would wait for a proper U.S. release- I believe its a Sony film and I'm sure they won't mess it up. Just my 2c. |

Hello,
The picture quality is most definitely not disappointing. The unusually warm colors (specifically the variety of yellows and blues) and softer looking scenes during key parts of the film are intentional. In fact, some of the softness during the nighttime scenes is inherited as well. (Similar comments about the Red One camera and image softness/inconsistencies were also floating around when Che was released). Pro-B |

When I said 'disappointing' I guess I was hoping for eye popping clarity all the way thru the movie- of course nightime scenes won't always be crystal clear even in HD. Something strange I did notice- the credits at the beginning of the movie are razor sharp but the end title credits I thought looked slightly out of focus. Did you notice this?... ![]() I don't believe this truly is the case -- if anything, the reviewers point out to the fact that generally the daylight footage is crisp and clean while the nighttime footage is often softer and revealing some mild noise; both of these "issues" are certainly limitations that occur when one shoots with the Red One. Additionally, Hierro boasts a number of subtle to strong color manipulations, and filtering, that also affect the way it looks - but these are not transfer-related issues. In any event, while I respect the different opinions expressed in these reviews, I most certainly disagree with them, and stand behind my initial observation that Optimum's high-definition transfer is indeed very strong.
