I previously owned the 80 GB PS3 and I did own it for a while I just owned 1 game. I would of bought more but the games are costly and more then blu-rays. I used it for streaming through Netflix and also I used the Playstation Home as well. I liked the Hard Drive space. Now I am deciding if I should buy the PS3 back or find a blu-ray system that has a good home audio system to where I can plug some good speakers along with a player. I own only about 6 blu-ray movies and about 30 DVDs. I plan on buying more blu-ray as that is my focus. I may plan on getting a ps3 game down the line but not till the price goes down for the ones I want.
Which should I invest in - A blu-ray player with a home theater system attached to it or another PS3? |

This thread is going to be colorful as you would have 30 opinions from 20 guests.
I would go for a stand-alone blu-ray player, with 3D capacity. Blu-Ray player with 3D capacity will naturally comes with HDMI 1.4 slot. PS3 can do blu-ray 3D by firmware upgrade but TrueHD and dTS-MA sound will be down-mixed to regular Dolby Digital and DTS. A compromise since PS3 was designed in 2006 with HDMI 1.3. If you are going to get a blu-ray 3D player, get one with 2 HDMI outputs. Economy model would be Panasonic 310 and Samsung D6700. The higher model OPPO 93 and 95, Onkyo 809. Still have an itch for the games? A used PS3 serves your purpose decently. Down the line I am sure new manufacture PS3 line (or PS4?) would have HDMI 1.4 hardware thus full 3D capacity. |

If you are a gamer then I would go with a PS3 because it is the best in the buisness and it also is very very good watching Blu's and so fourth. But if you just like watching movies and are into the streaming thing I would with just a stand alone Blu ray player. I have the S570 which replaced my N460 and 80 gig PS3 and I have never looked back. I know the PS3 is can do almost anything and it does but for me its a stand alone Blu ray player and thats all I need. But its your money so you have to do what you think is best for your needs.
