Default What to do with old CRT monitor?

I want to upgrade my desktop monitor, I'm using a CRT monitor right now and I don't know what to do with it. Is there a place that takes old parts you no longer need? I don't want to just throw it away in the garbage. Thanks!

Donate it perhaps? Church? Boys and Girls Clubs? You could just give it to Goodwill.

The one here does.....maybe it varies by location. Don't really know. If they don't, I'm sure there are some other places that would gladly take it off of your hands. Whatever you do.....don't just throw it out. CRT's are bulky for sure, but if it's in good condition can still deliver years of performance for someone.

I don't think Goodwill or Salvation Army accepts CRT's anymore; at least they don't in my area. I would try and locate a Boy's and Girl's Club, church, or maybe even a school might be interested.

You can also give it away on freecycle!! Someone is always interested in a free set...

If you donate it, you could get a tax credit for next years tax return.

lol yeah... As nice as it is to find someone who wants it, nobody wants that stuff anymore.

Contact your local dump, I know ours puts out donation bins for those giant crt tv's and computer parts (I don't know what they actually do with them )

For some CRT's Best Buy charges $10 for recycling but they give you a $10 gift card at the same time so just wait till you're going there for something.

My Dump wants $20 now for disposal of any CRTs.

Lots of options here, I guess I will check with Best Buy and if they don't accept it I'll try Goodwill.

No, it's not a Sony FW900 BLindsay lol. It's a COMPAQ FS7600.

The last one I got rid of was buried at the bottom of my trash can. Pay to get rid of it my @$$! Now, had I known about the Best Buy deal, I'd have taken it there.

Yes, most places won't accept or don't want to deal with CRTs anymore, no one wants them after everone dumped them when LCD monitors took over. And, to dispose of them they are considered a hazardous waste - thus the fees charged to get rid of them.

When I want to get rid of something I just set it out on the front sidewalk (I live in a small town) with a big FREE sign on it - everything I have set out has always disappeared within two hours, including a couple of CRT's. And, if no one takes it, then you just replace the sign with one that says FOR SALE $20 - and it will disappear within 30 minutes...

Locally here we have a recycling center that takes any old electronic parts, they refurbish what they can and they strip the rest and sell the copper etc, check around I am sure someone close by would take it, My local center came to my house and picked up a couple of boxes of stuff I didn't want, old crt monitors , dvd players old computer parts, they were great.
