Default You're favorite obscure, forgotten or generally hated games...

DAMN... I used the wrong form of YOUR in the title!!!

...Can ya help me out Mods?

Anyway, whenever I see lists of people's favorite games, they always include titles like Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Mario Brothers, Call of Duty, etc, etc. You know... The hits. But what about the games that didn't do so well? Games that nobody ever heard of, got lost in the shuffle, were moderately popular but forgotten or known but generally disliked. What are you favorites in this catagory? Please, no games that were uber big at one time. I'll start with a few...

Pirates: The Legend of Black Kat (Xbox)
Treasures of the Deep (Playstation)
The Urbz: Sims in the City (Xbox)
Blasto (Playstation)
Jumping Flash (Playstation)
South Park Rally (Dreamcast)
Tail of the Sun (Playstation)
Tokyo Extreme Racer 2 (Dreamcast)
Seaman (Dreamcast)
The Adventures of Willy Beamish (Sega CD)
Flashback (Genesis)
Tecmo's Deception (Playstation)
S.N.A.T.C.H.E.R. (Sega CD)
ToeJam & Earl 3 (Xbox)

Lair would be one of them, but it was waitied by alot of people.

One game I been wanting to play was on the Dreamcast. It's called D2, it was developed for 4 years, and literally came out in Japan in December 23, 1999, to coencide with the Y2K conspiracies. Basically it's the Thing if it were Metal Gear Solid (cinematics), but if it were to play in an arthouse cinema, you might get an idea what you are getting.

I loved Tomba! for the original Playstation. It sells for ridiculous prices nowadays. Even though it got a sequel, it's still a pretty obscure franchise.

It got terrible reviews and it's glitchy as hell, but I've always loved Mission: Impossible for the N64. To me it has always felt like the predecessor to the fantastic Hitman franchise.

EDIT: Oh, and good call on Pirates: The Legend of Black Kat. I loved that game and I thought that I was the only person who knew that it even existed!

MetalStorm for the NES, a forgotten game.

Metroid Other M, a hated game. Though who plays Metroid for the story?

I'll go with a couple for the NES:

Mighty Bomb Jack
Solomon's Key

I love both of those games, for whatever reason.

I don't understand all the disdain for the Viva Pinata (Save for the awful 'Party Animals') games. I get that they have a 'cutesy' style but they were incredibly well made and insanely addictive.

I do! Metroid Fusion has a nice story about repercussions, government delusion, deception, and insubordination.

I got somewhat into Thousand Arms on PS1. The 'simulated dating' side quests are hysterical. A shame they botched the battle system.

Half of my collection (see signature) consists of rare RPGs. I'll do Lufia, Suikoden, Ogre Battle, and more.

OVERBLOOD. PS1.

This game was a puzzle game in the style of RE. I beat the game and the below made me love the game again, was it good, definitely not but thanks to Game Informer in the link below it is cult.

Although it sold well, Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness received mixed reviews upon release and has a reputation as a failure that persists to this day (whereas Legend is seen as the game that saved the franchise and returned the series to its roots, something I disagree with). The production was fraught with problems and several delays, resulting in a game that was released in an unfinished form; the control scheme was clunky and there were numerous glitches. I love the game, however. It's very atmospheric, the level design is fantastic and it has the most engaging of the storylines in the series. The consensus seems to be that it had great potential, but I guess the controls and glitches never bothered me to the point that I couldn't appreciate its many positive merits.

I've never played a game with such horrid controls before. I hated, HATED that game. For the life of me it was just hard to jump in a straight line.
I'm glad you could take the controls.... but my TV would've suffered a horrible fate if I played that game any longer.

Add me to the lot that hated that game, lol. I still plan on going back and trying it, but not with the mound of unplayed games sitting in front of me.

Intelligent Cube came out for the PS1. Never owned it, but it came on a demo disc - absolutely loved that game.

Treasures of the Deep came on the same disc.

And I'm not sure if this even qualifies as a game, but growing up I had some PC software called Story Book Weaver which let you write your own story and add clip art to it as well. Such a great time doing that - parents get this type of thing for your children! Great for creativity!

Would you consider me psychotic if I told you I'd completed it five times?

Yes, but people would probably call me crazy for never completing a single Tomb Raider game, and not playing a single one after the first one. I have always hated the series, never appealed to me at all, thought the first one was horrible overhyped mess. But that is just me, the new reboot of the franchise is interesting me a bit though.

Oh yeah, I loved the Vigilante 8 games.

I always thought that they would have made for a cool movie adaptation. I bet Paul W.S. Anderson has a script for one filed away in his office somewhere.

I'm sure there are a ton I'm missing from the SNES, Genesis era. I would love to get some kind of mame system going to play all of these again.

Herzog Zwei (this Sega Genesis game consumed my life. amazing soundtrack as well)

Maximo ( PS2 - love both of them and wish more were coming)

Oni (PS2 - great gameplay hand to hand and gun play, and awesome level designs, though bland graphics)

Nosferatu (SNES, basically a beat m up vampire game with Prince of Persia mashed in and an awesome soundtrack and love the art style)

Jakt Crush (pinball game, sequel to Devils Crush)

Panzer Dragoon Zwei (Saturn.. so much better than the sequel on the xbox)

I loved that game! Unfortunately, the Tokyo Extreme Racer series really declined into obscurity after that entry.

I would have to put a vote in for Lair too. Although it was widely panned and caused the developer, Factor 5, to shutter its doors, I actually liked the game. They should have offered analog stick controls from the start. Had they done that, the game may have been received differently by critics and gamers. Heck, Sony should go back and add Move controls to Lair. That is what the game really needs.
