Glad somebody made this post. Within the DC Animated Universe, there is also the DC Animated Movie Universe (DCAMU). This is based off the "New 52" series. Those films include:
The 2 upcoming Superman movies, The Death of Superman & Reign of the Superman are also based within this continuity. Last edited by WestMan; 04-14-2018 at 08:07 PM. |

I’ve only seen a handful of these. When it comes to DC, all I really care about it Batman. And I’m sure opinions are vastly different from the norm. I loved Assault on Arkham, The Killing Joke, and especially Batman and Harley Quinn.
I thought the new Suicide Squad Hell to Pay was just ok. And the only other two I’ve seen are Year One and Dark Knight Returns. Both of which I honestly thought were just ok. And even though they’re not really considered part of this series, I loved Mask of the Phantasm, SubZero, and Return of the Joker. |

I created a follow-up post with various DC Animation releases on blu-ray. I tried to categorize them, hopefully it makes sense. Please let me know if I missed one. Last edited by Moe Szyslak; 04-14-2018 at 09:55 PM. |

Everything leading up to Flashpoint Paradox is kind of its own continuity, those stories all stand on their own.
But Flashpoint acts the same way as it did in the comics, “rebooting” the universe and with it the characters all got new designs and voice casts that’ve stayed relatively consistent from there on. Many of the newer films have been based on New 52 stories or they’ve taken old stories and rewritten them to be compatible with New 52 character line-ups (Judas Contract). Gods and Monsters is an elseworlds story so that’s standalone because it’s an alternate reality. Killing Joke is also a stand-alone story. Basically if Bruce Timm is involved heavily, it doesn’t share continuity with the New52 DCAU. Batman Ninja and the Adam West films are also seperate. I can’t remdmver if Assault On Arkham is part of the New 52 continuity or if it was made to promote the Arkham videogames... either way it was loosely connected. The continuity of the “New52” DCAU is pretty loose anyways. While you’ll see the same character models and hear the same voices, the stories will rarely connect because they’re meant to be enjoyed without needing too much background information. But Flashpoint is where it starts. Though technically War is the real origin story and takes place before Flashpoint Paradox. |

Of these movies, Under the Red Hood and Flashpoint Paradox are my favorites. I'm also a fan of Dark Knight Returns and Justice League Dark.
Also, even though it's a webseries and not a movie, the producers of the Constantine animated webseries have [Show spoiler]

I'll have to rewatch War, but I never though Flashpoint Paradox led into the new continuity. At the end of Flashpoint, Flash knows Batman/Bruce Wayne but at the beginning of War if I'm remembering correctly, he acts like he doesn't know Batman but has heard of him and his kind of in awe of him for some reason.

I agree that most of the movies don't have to be watched in any particular order. With that said, I would recommend watching Son of Batman, Batman vs. Robin, & Batman: Bad Blood in order.
I have seen 6 of the LEGO movies, and as a whole they are surprisingly entertaining. A lot of humor. |

[Show spoiler] . Also [Show spoiler] references it.There's also some animated titles from the Arrowverse with Vixen and the upcoming Freedom Fighters: The Ray. There's another CW Seed cartoon as well for Constantine which is supposed to get a BD release, but that one is actually said to be in the same continuity of Justice League Dark. |

WB/DC needs to get The Batman (Seasons 1-5) and The Batman vs. Dracula on blu-ray. A lot of fans overlooked or dismissed this series, due to comparisons with B:TAS, but I think it's great.
