Yeah has anyone used them to buy Multi-region players?

Im looking to switch my player for a Panasonic DMP-BD75. It says its region free, for both DVDs and BR, but has anyone bought from them?

Also, if anyone has any info on that player, I greatly appreciate it. AND is this player is generally region free to begin with?

I'm not 100% but I think they've been going a while (I remember the name from DVD days). They're in Peterborough so if they aren't to far away I'd sugest to go down in person and check them out.

If you have any region A discs maybe you could arrange a demo?

Just import a player (loads on eBay) from the region you want.

There's not that many locked discs out there so faffing about modding stuff is pretty pointless unless you live on a small houseboat or have too much money to waste.

I have the same models from the UK and US so 1 remote and I know I have the best quality as there'll be upgrades to firmware.

All Criterion's discs, for example.

To buy two players instead of one player and just a player's chip for a different zone? Isn't it pointless? Second chip will be mounted inside a player. Firmware of each chip can be upgraded independently. And you will free space in your rack and one HDMI input on your receiver.

Just depends what you want.

If you have 2 players (Region A and Region B) you not only can share disc load (less wear) but you can also easily play Region 1 and Region 2 DVDs of course.

And -the last I looked- it's MUCH cheaper to have 2 machines and you can get firmware updates easily (important with Blu-ray!) and you have good support from the manufacturer.

Chips? For people with too much money and/or not enough sense.

I have the modified Sony BDPS350 and I can play BDs of regions A and B as well as DVDs of all zones.

Chip is just a part of player. Hence chip should cost less than the whole player. But in fact only specialist can mount a chip inside a player. It's a handmade operation. That is why, IMHO, the modified players are indeed too expensive. But there are the exceptions - anyone can easily mount the chips in OPPO players. For example, OPPO BDP-93/95 multiregion DIY kit costs $149:

Firmware updates are applied exactly the same way for the modified players because it's a firmware only for a chip and firmware will not affect other parts of player's hardware.

Are the guarantees for player produced for / sold in US covered by the manufacturer's support services in UK?

And how much for the pre-modded player? You could easily get 2 Sonys or Panasonic and still have lots of cash to spare.

A guarantee is not necessarily "support" is it? The support -as you know- means firmware updates. Firmware updates have nothing to do with guarantees in the EU or anywhere else.

Blu-ray is not a finalised 'standard' by any means of the imagination and I'd rather have factory finished machines than buy or give a machine to someone to finger it and do gawd knows what else.

I've just ordered a BD-75 from Multiregion Magic and it should be delivered tomorrow, so I will let you know what I think of it.

I tend to stick with Panasonic's because they are usually reliable. My first Panasonic DVD player from 1998 still works.

I've used Multiregion Magic in the past and they've been fine.

The DIY mod for the Oppo cost me £40 and required little effort to install... I don't see how that was more expensive than buying two players and I personally think I'd find messing around with two players for different discs more annoying than one where you can change the region. Plus firmware updates work fine, I've upgraded at least twice.

However I was able get my player from the States when I was living there and if I was buying now it might be more difficult or expensive, I don't know.

Received the BD75 late yesterday.

I was quite suprised by how small it is, but it seems solid enough.

To change region, before switching it on, you hit the blue button on the remote followed by 1,2 or 3 (for regions A,B or C). I dont have any region A discs yet, but I set the player to region A and tried a few region B only discs and they wouldnt play.

DVD's R1 & R2 play without changing anything.

Picture quality on Blu-Rays seemed fine (on my 42 inch tv) and DVD upscaling is good.

Overall, very pleased with the player. It seems more responsive than my BD60 which is rather slow.

I was happy with the service from Multiregion Magic. They kept me informed about the order and it was delivered when they said it would be.
