United Kingdom Selling digital/dvd copies from Triple/double plays?

I never use these and was wondering if it was ok to sell them on ebay or where ever. I know they have a licence agreement but then so does a lot of things and they tend to be sold on ebay.

The problem is if maybe the two are linked, like codes on the box, or on the blu ray disc, does this happen at all?

There are surprisingly few on ebay at the moment, I can't be the only one who doesn't watch them?

If I can't sell them, I'll try and give them away to friends and family, they are wasted on me.

I would say it is risky selling them. Not because it is against the law as it is no different to selling a DVD or blu ray, but you need to trust the person buying as they could simply come back and say that the code doesn't work and I don't know who Ebay would believe in that situation. Although financially you wouldn't really be out of pocket if you had to refund, the cost of that digital copy was included in the purchase price. As long as the seller has genuine positive feedback you'll be fine as I know there are dodgy buyers on ebay who find items for sale like this where they can take advantage of the seller

Secondly, these codes usually require the DVD as the ones I've used have copied the digital file off the DVD so without the disc they are pretty much useless so you would need to sell the DVD as well

The best bet is give the codes to friends/family and let them borrow the DVD

Thanks, what's the deal with the expiry dates, is that when you can no longer download the film, or is there some kind of DRM that stops the already downloaded file from playing after that date? Just out of curiosity, really. Are they really strict about the dates?

Is ultraviolet something different?

The dates are when you have had to downloaded the file by as this is when the code expires. The file will still work after the date so there is no expiry on that, just on the code. The question is choosing what device to download it for, either iPad/iPod or PC, or occasionally PS3 as you only get the choice of one as the code only works once

To be fair, it is probably easier to rip the DVD if it comes with one as the digital copy is only DVD quality

Ultraviolet is where you also get a code, but rather than download a copy, you stream it, either through Netflix or whatever service they have chosen to use. You need a wi-fi connection to use this which is why a lot of people don't like them

Expiry dates vary, some need to be redeemed before a certain time and I think some only work for a set amount of time after they've been redeemed.

Ultraviolet is more of a cloud based, stream anywhere kind of format (where you can back-up your movies to physical formats as well).

When the digital copy is on the dvd (one disc contains both the dvd and digital copy), is the dvd quality downgraded to make room for the digital copy?

Theoretically, it does reduce the disc space available to use for the DVD video since those files take 1-2 GB. However in practice, studios never use all of the 8+ gigabytes available on a non-DC copy's dual-layer disc, so it's likely a negligible impact at most.

Interesting, apparently there was a fault with the Inception TP and WB had to replace the discs, which was something to do with compression and disc space.

From my cursory reading of the issue online, it seems it was more of an encoding problem than anything else. I'm sure that being a rather long (148 minute) film sharing a DVD with a DC doesn't help matters, though. Also, it's Warner and they aren't exactly the kings of quality (outside of their top-tier catalog releases like Wizard of Oz)...

The combined DVD + digital copy have no extras on the DVD so that saves space on the disk. As you say most times you copy from the disk to your laptop or iPad.
Only different one is Transformers 3 3d where there was no disk, so you had to download from iTunes.

Are these only once as don't save as a purchase in my iTunes library so presume once you delete it you have lost it ?
