Australia Arn - The Knight Templar - be warned!

Love this film. Didn't even know it was released here on BluRay but noticed it yesterday at JB so I grabbed it.

Unfortunately, turns out it's the shortened version - and it is absolute crap. They've cut nearly half an hour from the beginning of the film, removing all story & character development of his childhood, and re-edited a few bits of it in "flashback" form. Turning an epic flick into pure junk.

Get home and jump online - turns out there is also a "Collector's Edition" available here and it is the full version and oddly enough, it's also the same price.

So this is just a heads up, if you're looking at buying this (which I highly recommend) make sure you grab the Collectors Edition (194 minute) and not the one standard (134 minute).

Hi,

The runtime is on the database;

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Arn-T...Blu-ray/12554/

Thats the problem with blind buys sometimes.. sorry it happened to you.

Its also cropped from 2.35:1 to 1.78:1

Well, this sucks.

Do NOT under any circumstances buy the Australian BluRay release of Arn: Knight Templar. Be it the standard or Collector's edition.

Bought the "Collector's Edition" thinking it would be the full version, and not the jumbled mess of the standard disc - boy was I wrong.

Arn is actually a 2 part movie - about 5 hours on total. I was thinking we got the first movie. Not the case. What we effectively get is both movies truncated into 1. Turning 5 hours of epic film-making into 3 hours of absolute junk. 2 1/2 hours on the standard disc.

The story & character development from the original has been removed and used sparsely (and rather incomplete) as flashbacks - friendships, plots & story-lines now make little to no sense whatsoever.

UTTER PIECE OF CRAP

Spend your hard-earned elsewhere.

Apparantly the US version is the same.

From what I can find only the Swedish release is the true version.

You said in your first post the Collectors Edition was 194 minutes.... and now you expected it to be 5 hours?

You should probably stay away from Shogun Assassin too lmao

Haha

5+ hours for both movies combined.

There are 2 parts/movies:

Part 1: Arn - Tempelriddaren (The Knight Templar),

Part 2: Arn - Riket vid vägens slut (The Kingdom at the End of the Road)

I was under the impression that what I bought was just the first movie. Nothing on the cover states otherwise.

Didn't realise it was both movies combined, then edited & truncated into his garbage.

Combined runtime for both movies on the Swedish release is 267 minutes.

We get 194.

Just a shame that it doesn't have English subs.

There's also a version on sale from Amazon Germany that consists, if I remember correctly, of six 45 minute TV episodes, about 270 mins in total. Again, unfortunately, no English subs, and this one is only on DVD.

Forgot to post the link to Amazon Germany --

http://www.amazon.de/ARN-Die-TV-Seri...2788704&sr=8-2

It mentions English as a language track, but I think that's a reference to the original track which was a mixture of Swedish, English and some others as well.

Yes you're correct.

The English track refers to the English Audio tracks, as parts of the movies are in English - however they don't have English subtitles for other parts of the movies which is a mixture of Arabic, Swedish, French and even a little Latin.

Such a shame.

Such a shame.
Just as a matter of interest, how was the picture quality on the collected edition blu-ray?

Looked fantastic to me ... but I'm not a PQ monger, so with my 40" Sony LCD, what I determine fantastic is what another might call pretty good.

I'll probably pick up a copy at the next 20% off JBHiFi sale, despite the fact that, as you say, it's been cut to bits. It's probably the longest cut we're likely to get that has English subs for the non-English language bits. I've actually read all three books, so I can fill in all the blank spots from them.

By the way, I noticed that the French blu-ray version available from Amazon clocks in at over 200 minutes long and is presented in the OAR of 2.35:1. And according to Amazon France's product page, it also has an English language track, which I'm assuming once again will be the original multi-language track. Also listed here with details in French -- http://www.dvdfr.com/dvd/f151636-arn...du-temple.html
