Default A request for everyone to help get a game patched- UPDATE 10/11/2011

I am aware that there is already a thread for the Splinter Cell HD trilogy and I seem to be the only one who actually posts in it, but I am asking the moderators not to merge them because I want everyone to see this post.

Anyway, Ubisoft re-released an HD remaster of the Splinter Cell trilogy which was one of my all time favorite series of games. It was one of this years most anticipated releases for me personally. The game ships and the game inexplicably ships without the ability to invert the controls, which for someone like me basically makes the game unplayable. A LOT of people feel this way, but I seem to be the only one taking drastic steps to do something about it. So far Ubisoft has not made any indication that they intent to patch the issue and it is my hope to get them to reconsider.

Here is the message that I have been posting on other forums:
Quote:
Hey guys,

Call the following number for Ubisoft Tech support: 919-460-9778 and complain about the invert issue. That is the US tech support number.

Other countries are listed here:
http://www.ubi.com/US/Support/InternationalSupport.aspx

The Ubisoft tech rep told me that he had a few people call about the issue, but the more people that call to complain the more important the issue becomes. He basically admitted it was a numbers game. If people leave their complaining to the internet and messageboards NOTHING will get done, but if you call the hell out of them and get everyone else to do the same, the chances increase dramatically.

For those who don't have an invert issue I am hoping you will have the goodwill to also voice your complaints. Please do this.

Also dont limit yourself to the invert issue, mention trophies not unlocking and such.

LET THEM KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your call is appreciated. If you are going to respond to this post please spare me crap like "Ubisoft wont do anything" "Learn to play without inverted controls" stuff like that. Even if you don't care, lend a fellow gamer a hand.

Thanks!!

You mean, make the controls so that up is down and so forth?

Yes, many gamers play that way and its usually a standard feature in most games.

I am not saying replace the controls, but give gamers the option to switch between standard and inverted. Right now standard is all that offered and many of us can't play that way.

Patches cost a lot of money, so I think your best bet is to convince them that they will gain enough new users to at least offset that cost.

That's the whole reason this thread exists so I can ask for bluray.com users to make the call for the cause.

I am hoping you will take two minutes and make the call.

Please!

Why not write a letter to Sony telling them to demand the feature in all PS3 games? Or you could ask them to add feature in the PS3 so can control the direction of the Dual Shocks. For example

Quote:
Controller: # (After you select the controller number the additional features appear
L3 Vertical: Normal / Inverted
L3 Horizontal: Normal / Inverted
R3 Vertical: Normal / Inverted
R3 Horizontal: Normal / Inverted
This would be listed under Game Settings and would only take affect while in game. Granted, it may cause some issues navigating menus, but you ultimately get what you ask for.

I am actually thinking about complaining to Sony since these games are released on the PSN and many people are complaining about the control issue too.

It really sucks for those people who got it off of the PSN because there are no refunds. Sony might be able to persuade Ubisoft to do something about it.

Amazon agreed to allow me to return the disc version for a full refund, but other people may not be so lucky.

I know Shin-Ra and Maximus have contacts in Sony and maybe they can tell me who to contact to see if I can bring the issue forward.

I am not sure how likely it is that Ubisoft will fix this issue, but dammit I am going to try.

Plenty of people have been contacting UbiSoft and they have said they would look into if a patch is possible but nothing has been heard since. Obviously they are aware of it being an issue but who knows if it will get resolved. They used the PC versions as the base and back then PC games were not as gamepad friendly so possible the PC versions didn't have inverted options since nobody wants that with a mouse. Can't be bothered installing one of the PC versions to check what options they had.

On 360 there is a way to invert controls if a game doesn't support it so I also agree that Sony should have a feature like that. Also saves from having to change the options for every game.

In the meantime if you don't game too far from your TV or if you game on a monitor then there is at least one wired controller that I know of which allows you to invert with a switch on the controller.

Bu yeah won't be buying it myself if they don't patch it since I am too far from my TV for wired controllers to be an option and I can't play something like this on the consoles without it being inverted.

Which controller are you talking about? I have been looking online for a little while and I haven't found a single one. I suppose I could have missed it, but I don't see how.

And here I am thinking that my left-handedness was a complication

Gonna inform my brother, who plays in the inverted control style as well, about this since he was looking forward to getting Splinter Cell soon.

But I'm on the boat here with suggesting to Sony to include this option in the PS3's settings. I'm actually on the phone right now with them to make the suggestion, its a free call and I got time to kill

damn, i play with inverted controls (in the vertical direction) in pretty much all of my games. I can force myself to play with normal controls, but every now and then I slip into the inverted control mindset.

Yeah, its freakin frustrating beyond belief.

I hope the mods will be patient, but I am going to try and keep this thread bumped on the front page for a while.

Update:

A Ubisoft rep called me and they told me that they DO plan to patch the game, but they let me know that its a complicated process and it will require Sony to give the OK as well and that could take a little while. Lets hope Sony takes care with this issue also.

The fact that Ubisoft personally called me and told me that they DO plan to fix the issue is an encouraging one and I hope it does happen.

But please keep on calling and letting them know. There is now a fire lit under Ubisoft's ass and its up to gamers to keep it burning!

Thanks.
