There's also the fact that so many earlier films were GOOD, in ways modern ones aren't.

Modern films are also good and will one day become classics in their own right. Film history is full of people talking down about their decade.

Not so true.

The closer we get to the internet being part of the culture and then moving still onward from its impact? The easier it is to still remember it and hopefully catalog it for everyone to still see.

We have so much crap from the past that is literally lost. Or even brought up. To which, it looks like it was a lot of great stuff. The 1970s was sooooo much crap for example. It had some amazing stuff come out of it but that decade was a mess for sure.

Historically, the more viable stuff shines still. Some good stuff gets lost in the mix, we see this all the time depending on the region for this or that reason *looks at Hong Kong*. The bad stuff from the past? Nobody, in the general mainstream, cares. Though we do have niche distributors nowadays pumping out films that are old crap but it has an audience. Love ya, Vinegar Syndrome (and others).

There was a lot of crap there in the start onward, and there's still a lot of crap still. It's just harder to hide the crap now.
