Default Decision input

I am going to add a new TV to the house (living room or bedroom). In the living room I currently have a 50" G10 with 5400 hours on it which of course still looks GREAT. The bedroom is a 20" Philips SD tube

We sit:
12' from mounting location in living room
10' from the mounting location in the bedroom

Here are the possible scenarios, I would like some opinions.

Option 1: Buy a Panasonic 42" ST30 to add to the bedroom

Option 2: Buy a Panasonic 50" S30 to add to the bedroom

Option 3: Buy a Panasonic 50" S30 to add to the living room and move the G10 to the bedroom.

Thank you for your opinions

Bill

The ST30 is a significant upgrade/improvement over the S30 for not a lot more $$. We've had a 42" in the bedroom for years, and it's plenty big for what it's used for.

Currently BB has the 42ST30 and the 50S30 for the same price which is what is causing the dilemma. I can't help but think that the black levels on the S30 will not live up to what I have in my G10 to be honest.

Thank you for the input sir

The S30 isn't a great TV. The ST30 should be far better.

Returned the P50S30 (purchased it last night) and picked up the P42ST30 and I couldn't be happier, even the wife thinks it looks better

I had to exchange the first 42ST30, it had 2 bad pixels after about 15 hours.

Hey, it unfortunately happens (to all brand tv's). Don't let it discourage you though because you have a solid set.

I probably have read these forums as well as highdefjunkies too much but I am getting discouraged with the issues that constantly arise with Panasonic plasmas including fluctuating brightness and dead pixels. It seems too risky to buy this product online at Amazon.

Fluctuating brightness, though present to some degree in some sets, is being blown way too far out of proportion. I've had my new set for nearly a month, and I've only seen it once. If I had not been aware of the 'problem', I most likely never would have noticed it.

Dead pixels are something that happens on rare occasion, and it typically something you can return/exchange your set for. Think about it. There are over 2MM pixels in a 1080p panel. Statistically speaking, a <1 ppm failure rate is pretty darn good.

Why would you term it "risky" to buy from Amazon? As long as the retailer covers free return/replacement, there is no more risk than buying anywhere else. I made sure I could return my set free within 30 days before I purchased, because I wanted to evaluate the fBr issues for myself before deciding to keep the set.

I guess I used the wrong term. But it seems it would be a hassle doing returns/exchanges on Amazon because you have to wait and expect another delivery.

So far the 2nd set has been perfect. I had 10 hours on the break in slides when I left this morning. I am running these for the main purpose of exposing any early issues in the set. The one I returned made it 8 hours before the 2nd pixel went out, the first was pixel was DOA but it was in the very lower right one in the display.

In my opinion, the likelihood of you wishing you had purchased a smaller TV is zero percent. By the 50 inch.

The likely hood of my wishing I had purchased a higher quality TV is 100% which is why the 50" was returned and the 42" is hanging on the wall.
