Default What is this artifact?

Hey guys.... I am unBELIEvABLY frustrated right now. I just received my second Samsung pn51d8000 after the first one arrived with a cracked screen from shipping. So I get the new tv on the wall and am testing it out with some Band of Brothers to see how good the blacks are in the dark scenes of Episode 2... and lo and behold I notice this weird extra dark area in the lower right hand corner. It is only noticeable during the darker scenes, and as the picture gets bright at all it is almost completely unnoticeable. The pictures provided were taken when I paused it during a very dark scene.

Anyone have ANY idea what this is? I just went through over a week of waiting for THIS set to arrive while the cracked screen sat in its box waiting to be exchanged... and now I might have yet another issue. Just figured I'd check in here for now until I can get a hold of customer service to see what might be going on.

Look at the pixel colors in the corner. There's an area that is completely "off" that extends and angles down and to the left at the bottom.

I have no clue what this is, but would suspect a problem with those pixels.

It's definitely not normal.

I had exactly the same problem with my LG Plasma and although it wasn't confirmed as a fault I didn't believe it was right for it to be there so I returned the set! When I got a second set the problem was still there which made me think they had replaced it with the same TV. Check the batch number and if you return it for a new set make sure its from a different batch! There may have been a fault in the production of this batch of TVs!

Yep... But the weird part is, when there is light or brightness in the scene, that area lights up just fine, so the pixels themselves work and put off light, they just do it incorrectly in darker scenes, it seems... I don't get it, and I am so annoyed. I emailed customer service where I bought the tv from, so we'll see. Since it's an online order it's a lot harder to just return it for a new one, so hopefully they come up with some way to make it easier for me. Grrr...

I added some spaces between the pictures. It looked like one giant image which made it hard to tell what you were looking at.
