Not sure what is going on with Corel WinDVD Pro 2010. The software still has 2010 in the title which should tell the consumer something, along with the low price. Sony uses Corel WinDVD in their F 3D VAIO laptop and it couldn't play the Blu-ray 3D titles of Tangled or Tron 3D until it had a CorelŽ WinDVDŽ BD Software Update on 6/3/2011. Many of us purchased the Corel WinDVD Pro 2010 version thinking it would have been updated to play the latest BD 3D discs and as far as I know it still has no update for some titles. Guess because Sony uses their own version as an OEM the company was under more pressure to update their version for the new VAIO's, but when the Pro 2010 version will be updated, is anyone's guess.

So for $40.00 dollars is it worth it, (features etc) At the moment I have no interest in 3d and won't be upgrading for sometime, so that's not an issue, if it's as good as power dvd I will def buy, as long it will play all current titles it will be a lot cheaper alternative to power dvd

If it sounds too good to be true it probably is, regarding updatability that is.

Here is the Corel User to User Web Board link for people seeking to try to solve a multitude of WinDVD problems including just trying to update Corel's own software.

My big concern is Sony's Corel version of WinDVD, which is a proprietary OEM software version. OEM stands for (original equipment manufacturer), but in this case is misleading and used for a manufacturer who resells another company's product with proprietary-software-changes under their own name and branding.

It's comforting to know that I have a 3 year maintenance agreement for my VAIO including proprietary Corel WinDVD version updates, but I'm tending to be anxious about after the warranty expires and the time and cost it could take to get current updates thereafter.

Sony took 2-months to fix WinDVD for "Tangled 3D" & Tron: Legacy 3D compatibility problems before a June 3, 2011 software update and now there are two more 3D BD releases having problems with Corel WinDVD:

The August 2 release of "The Final Destination 3D" with hanging issues before the movie can be played. AND
The August 9 release of "Mars Needs Moms 3D" where the movie will not play.

Learned from the Corel Web Board that Sony only works on proprietary OEM fixes for their own version.
