Disney always takes a long time with their Blu-rays of older movies. But that's probably why they look so good.

With Studio Ghibli movies though, America usually has to wait awhile after the Japanese release just like most other anime on Blu-ray. Like I know I heard about Japan getting Howl's Moving Castle on Blu-ray, but America probably isn't going to see it until probably sometime of like Winter or Spring 2012.

Out or announced in Japan, with most of them also out or announced for UK, France, Germany, HK etc:

Ponyo
Nausicaa
Laputa
Yamadas
Whisper
Arrietty
Howl's
Earthsea

Out or announced in the US:

Ponyo
Nausicaa

I think that says it all really... Disney has always been terrible at releasing the Ghibli films in the US. The expensive work of doing the new transfers is done, so there's no real reason for it either. Except maybe that they have their plate full doing repackaged re-releases, 3D re-releases, and five different editions for each new movie...

With Disney it's all about marketing. I'm thinking they are holding off so they can do a tie in with their release of Arietty early next year.
