Interesting article. As someone who just purchased a new Panny I was happy to see that black levels actually improved over time.

Anyone who reads it should recognize the author's comments at the end about the test having flaws. Still, it goes to show that it might be of some benefit to have your plasma recalibrated after the first year or so of use.

My Polaroid Plasma TV was bought in September 05 and it looks just as good now as it did then. Many hours of gaming with no burn in and IR is very rare. When we bought it, it was 1800 bucks ( the next cheapest Plasma was about 3K or more at the time and it was not until 07 that we saw 42 inch plasmas in the 2k range). Some things about the TV that would make people not buy it is it only has 1 DVI input, no HDMI. It has 2 component inputs but the audio portion has to be converted to a single 3.5mm jack. Also has an RCA inut and VGA input. It has no input for a cable line either( co ax?) so I have to use a cable box with it. It isnt even rated as an HDTV but an EDTV however it does display 1080i and 720P. After 6 years and many hours of viewing, the brightness is still set to 50% and under. Never gave me any issues either. Now my Samsun LCD tat I bought in late 07, had different issues and needed to be replaced after the 3rd issue was not fixable. Next TV will be another plasma TV.

From what I've read on different electronic website forums that every few years you should have a ISF Certified Calibrator recalibrate and adjust your tv to bring the colors back to ideal.
