Default Advice on paint color?

I have a small room that I use to watch movies, football, etc. I would like for it to have a theater look since I'm really into home theater and watch mostly movies but at the same time I want it to look inviting. The room is around 11x10 with two openings, one going into the kitchen and one leading into the foyer. I have a plasma on a tv stand and floorstanders. I was thinking about painting the front wall black along with the ceiling. Do u guys think this is a bad idea being that the room is small and not an actuall dedicated theater?

I think if you have people over time to time black would not be a good choice. Might be a little weird/scary. On my opinion if you would have a designated room for it that would be different.........
I'm actually painting my closet black right now in about the same size room you have but it is completely designated theater room. And just walking in the room black draws attention if you want it or not.

But thats just my 2c.

If you want the real theater experience then it needs to be dark. I painted my screen wall and ceiling flat black and a tan color on the rest of the walls. I think it came out really good. You can see it in my theater photos. My room is 20x22.

Is that special designated theater room or part of your ”living” space?

I have a medium kinda dark gray on my walls & a dark gray on my ceiling & think they work great. I have vary little light reflection from my PJ screen. You can see in my gallery to get an idea

It is a separate dedicated room. I read through his original post a little to quickly. I agree with your assessment, black might not be his best choice.

Its just a room off from the kitchen in the back of the house downstairs. I look at it as a den. You can sort of see if from the foyer as you enter the house, which is why im a little skeptical on the whole black paint idea. I was thinking about painting the walls a copper/gold color to match the klipsch logo's on my speakers so things will flow a little. I like taking the grills off when im not watching a movie and show the speaker cones. There may be some times were friends are over watching football or whatever and i dont want to do that in a dark room (cant open the blinds due to the glare on my plasma). I want it to look good and not too boring.

Black is the way to go for the wall your display is against. My living room screen wall is flat black with off white walls and ceiling, and the room is still way too bright for a projector and my taste. Seems okay for the plasma though. A single black wall actually looks much better and more stylish than an all white room, with some depth given. Speakers also take on a nice richer look as well (if not black cabinets...)

A little before and after here (these are old though, system is much differently arranged now):

Looking at all the pics, I think the black wall looks great when u have just a screen and speakers in front. I may hold off and look into buying longer wires and putting my equipment in the back corner and mount the tv so I can get rid of the tv stand. Then I think the black wall would be ok.
