I'm reading that the Blu-ray Canadian exclusive version is 1080i and the DTS mix is poor ... any confirmation? is it region free?

It's Alliance so it's probably an HDTV port, wouldn't be surprised at all. It's Region A, also.

The back of the box says it's 1080i, but the movie is actually 1080p. I found the DTSHDMA track to be really good too.

yeah, I own this. Great transfer, considering the source. The audio is pretty raucous as well. I do not regret my purchase.

Unfortunately no. 99.9% of all Alliance-Exclusive discs have no subtitles.

Yup as much as I want this classic horror movie, especially since it's about $13 new shipped, I will wait for an American release with subs.

I agree. This is definitely one of the better Alliance releases.

Have fun waiting a few years. We won't be seeing Miramax / Dimension catalog titles in the US until mid-to-late 2011 at the earliest. That's if the new owners find a third party to distribute (if they don't do it themselves) to release the catalog titles out of.

Buena Vista hasn't released a catalog Miramax / Dimension title since February 2010 (re-release of Gangs of New York). Before that? November of 2009 (Kevin Smith box).

The several Meijer stores in Michigan that I have visited have a varying number of Alliance titles for sale at $9.99 each. Some just have several rows on an endcap while others have an endcap and another 40-50 stacked with overflows of U.S. titles.

By sheer luck I found a Digibook copy of Se7en and a copy of The Faculty.
