Default I need some help

I have an irritating situation going on right now. My current TV is a Samsung FP-T5084. A couple of months ago it started giving me some trouble with the display that I would rather not go into because it's not relevant right now. Long story short, I bought the extended protection plan through BB when I got the TV and now they're replacing the TV rather than repair it. I should point out that I have not been keeping up with TV models/quality/technology lately so everything I've learned about these TVs has been a crash course over the last hour or so. I'm sure there's plenty I'm missing.

Here's the problem. The TV they're offering me for exact price match is the Panasonic S30. It's a 50" plasma. However, it looks to me like it's a noticeable step down from the ST30, and not just because of its lack of 3D. I really don't care about 3D, and if that was the only difference I would take the S30 and not worry about it.

I know Samsung TVs aren't held in the highest regard here, but when I bought mine, it was a 2nd tier model from Samsung for the year it was produced. They're offering me a 4th tier TV to replace it now.

I'm looking at this from a standpoint of picture quality, and evidently the ST series and up from Panasonic have their Infinite Black 2 panel and the S series and down do not.

I have the option of paying more and getting any TV I want, but IMO the ST is the more equivalent model, 3D features notwithstanding. Again, I don't particularly care about the 3D, but based on the limited reviews I've seen so far comparing the S30 and ST30 I feel like I'll be downgrading in picture quality if I settle for the S30.

I should point out that the ST30 is about a $200 price difference over the S30. Should I plead my case to the management and see if I can get the ST model? I have my doubts this would work. If they would offer the ST as an even replacement then I would fork out a couple hundred $$$ to go up to the 55".

Am I being unreasonable? What do you guys think? What would you do?

Thanks for any help or advice you can throw my way.
