Default Site still has issues after update

Although there was an unexpected update this afternoon that concerned some of us at first, it seems to now be mostly finished. However i have noticed that not everything is running fully yet.
I just wanted to point some things out so people know.

I can't make comments on Latest News (says I need to log in)
I can't see how many responses are on the latest posts (has old number)
The news RSS feed is out of date (shows news from 26th on widget)
Blu-ray.com banner still missing from some pages.

These are a few I saw, I just put them here so people can see what is not working yet so it can either be looked at or to avoid a mass outcry of "why doesn't THIS work?"

We've moved to a a new server with the latest PHP, Apache, Mysql, Linux etc... the glitches are mainly a PHP 4 -> 5 issue. I think I've fixed most of them, but please post here asap when you find new errors

This is a monster server which is only running blu-ray.com, so if it lags it's not the server

We will also shortly upgrade the connection to 100mbit.

A nit-picky one, but I cannot add new terms to the Glossary.

I can come in to these forums ok although everything isn't loading normally.

When I try to go to www.blu-ray.com front page I see this:

Quote:
Blu-ray.com has been moved to a new server. As you are still seeing this page your ISP/router/computer hasn't updated the DNS to reflect the IP of the new server. This may take up to 24 hours.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

// Blu-ray.com team

PS.

If you are using Windows and know what you are doing, you can add the following entries to your "hosts" file:
69.90.124.146 blu-ray.com
69.90.124.146 www.blu-ray.com
69.90.124.147 forum.blu-ray.com

This way you will be taken to the new server immediately.
^^ I don't know how to do this myself.

I've cleared out my cookies, history, everything I know how to do on this end.

If you are using Windows 2000/XP then open up Windows Explorer. Browse to Windows/System32/Drivers/Etc, and you should see a file called "hosts". It will NOT have an extension on it, open it with notepad, and under all the text, paste these verbatim into it,

69.90.124.146 blu-ray.com
69.90.124.146 www.blu-ray.com
69.90.124.147 forum.blu-ray.com

save the file, but make sure it DOES NOT have a .txt extension after closing it. Close and reopen your browser and you should be ok.

I still don't see the logo at the top of the pages in the forums.. but most the other issues I've seen/heard of are resolved. Thanks for the quick fixes!

I have just noticed that a number of posts I made while the transfer was still going on (the home page was down) have disappeared. They used to be there but now they are not with no explanation.
Looks like they were never there but I know they were. Strange bug, must be a limited time thing since most of the posts seem to be untouched.

I'm wondering if they moved the mysql db to a new database server. They might have made a duplicate of the database from a certain point in time and migrated it to the new server. I don't know if this is fact. It is purely speculation. The same thing happened to me.

Yeah, I've had the "moved to a new server" issue all morning long as well, so I couldn't view the site either. Then a little while later they posted the 3 lines that had to be added to the hosts file and voila, we're back in business.

Notice, that my manually adding these IP addresses and host names, it may cause issues in the future when the IP addresses of the blu-ray.com servers change.

What helps to get the new IP addresses is by going to the command prompt in Windows and type ipconfig /flushdns This clears the DNS cache windows maintains and forces it to get the new IP addresses. (Vista users: make sure you have a command prompt that has full administrative priviliges)

Good point, but the hosts file can be cleared out... and flushing the DNS cache won't take care of the issue if it is cached on the corporate DNS server and/or ISP's DNS server, until their cache refreshes.
