Just in case Foggy comes across this post
![]() Whether Nicolás López was actually trying to be funny with Aftershock I'll never know, because I ended up laughing more than I intended, but hell - intensity and pace gleefully carry the film two-thirds of the way. Recommended to fans who've been thirsty for Roth's brand of blood. Certain to generate a slew of lesser imitators, Aftershock manages to shake free from expectations of banality, creating an extremely effective, unsettling experience. A schizophrenic but effective little combo of Hostel and Irwin Allen. by coloring within the lines it is an effective midnight movie Aftershock is a brutally brilliant, blood-soaked horror destined to become a genre cult classic |

It actually looks like it might be entertaining. I'm not an Eli Roth fan though. The guy is an obnoxious douche. I sure hope the main characters here are less despicable than the ones in Hostel or Cabin Fever. Somehow I doubt it

I saw this at the only theater showing it in NYC (an arthouse). First, I hate these shoebox moviehouses. Not only do they have tiny screens but you have to put up with people blocking the view because of the seating arrangements. The film itself was OK but it didn't break any new ground. BTW, this is NOT a horror film. Horrible things happen in it, but it's not horror. As usual, the filmmakers were aiming for a "date night audience", aka people under 20. I know, that doesn't explain what Eli Roth is doing in the movie but this does come across as typically targeted. Those of you who live in an area where this film might be shown, you'll probably enjoy it if you enjoy this sort of thing but don't pay $14 if you can avoid it (go to a matinee).

I like Roth's horror & horror-like films (and the films he's been involved in), and just saw Aftershock for the first time - I know this is meant to be a horror/disaster movie, but I ended up laughing out loud through most of it. Hilarious film!
One of the funniest lines was when the ER character was talking to that young woman at the club, and she said something like "You dress like a dad", and he said "$##% you" in response - LOL. The characters were mostly all rich, entitled P.O.S.'s - so, I wasn't too broken up when they all [Show spoiler]

Eli Roth ... But in the end it's not his movie, right? This is the same case as "Tarantino presents" movies. Don't like that kind of marketing.
Even though I'm not a Roth-fan, I am looking forward to see "Aleister Arcane", cause the comic is great and I believe it can be a lot of nasty fun. |
