Default Scratch in P65VT30

So I just got my brand new Panasonic PT65VT30 Plasma today and when the TV is off I noticed about a 9 inch scratch in the TV screen right down the middle of the TV that will not come out. But when I play various content I can't see the scratch. Does anyone have a similar issue with their Plasma where they have a visible scratch while tv is off but it turned out ok because it isn't visible while playing content?

I really don't want to go through the hassle of a return and wait for another if it isn't going to be a big issue while playing content. I ordered directly from Panasonic Direct and would take probably 2 months to get replacement.

On a brand new set a scratch is unacceptable. I certainly wouldn't tolerate it.
You paid good money for that new set. It should come to you in new condition. When I unboxed my Panny plasma I carefully removed the outer foam sheeting. The screen was perfect and still is 3 years later.

Now suppose you keep this set and later start noticing the scratch, you will be really sorry you didn't report it.
Good luck!

I want to argue on both sides here. I live in Alaska and had to get a replacement TV direct from Sony. Took over a month.

But a noticeable imperfection in the screen would drive me nuts and I wouldn't use the TV.

I would call them and try to get them to send a new TV for free, and then you ship the other back after it arrives.

I just purchased my 4th Panasonic plasma, and have never experienced a defect such as you are describing. You definitely MUST return it. However, I would either propose to them what rlf mentioned above, or at least have them agree to notify you when the new set is available for shipment, and then you can return yours. That way, you minimize the time you are without a set.

Good luck to you.

Yeah I am quite upset over it but really can't notice anything while watching movies and such.. it really isn't a hard scratch it looks like a smear in the glass as if you would have trying to clean glass. Real faint mark but one that wont come out. Can only see it while tv is off if you view at the right angle.

I will call them tomorrow about it and see what they can do.

Other than this mark, I love the TV. Major improvement over my very old LCD I had before.

Hi,
I would say you change that tv for a new one.Nobody would like to buy a Mercedes with a scratch on its paint on the time of that vehicle delivery. And your tv is a hi end product. And living with this scratch for say 6 to 8 years will be a real irritation.Even if you have to wait without a tv for a month or so to get it delivered, try to replace it,without second thoughts.

In my place the panasonic plasma tv is delivered the following day of making full payment, then a day later their technician comes to our place and he only does the unboxing. He installs the tv depending on your requirement say wall mount or table mount and during that time they examine their product for any damage. And after installing the product they view the content for one hour to check for any faults & problems on the video content side.Once they & we are satisfied they get our signature that the product is working fine. And the customer is fully satisfied with their product. And they seal the warranty card and give it to us.
So in our case we cannot fix our hdtv by our oneself.even unboxing is not permitted. All these work is performed by their service personal at no extra cost, even the wall mount brackets are free !

But iam not complaining since iam happy with the end result ! And iam living in the heart of the city, not in the suburbs..So its easy for the panny guys to visit me promptly when need be.

Love,
kris.

When I bought my Samsung UA46C8000 led model last year I returned 2 of them due to scratches on the screen. Unlike the OP I couldn't see them while watching anything but I could while both tv's were off. The 3rd 1 I got come from a different batch than the previous 2 and was in perfect condition.

If you don't return it, I'm sorry...but that's idiotic

I called them and they are sending a new one to exchange it out. Looks like I get to keep this one until the new one comes so won't be without a TV. Just hope the replacement doesn't have a scratch or anything wrong with it. Will just keep having them replace until I get what I paid for.

That has me wondering.. Is the anti glare coating on the outside or inside of the glass? If on the outside, how would you clean the TV screen when it gets dirty?

What do people with Panasonic Plasma use to clean their screens?

Not sure on the first part. As for cleaning I use microfiber cloth with which ever glass cleaner I have available I get sticky nasty hand prints in the lower corners from our 2 year old and that is how I go about getting rid of them. I have seen no detrimental effects from using glass cleaner. The bedroom TV just gets dusted with a dry cloth since it is out of reach

Iam sure that the replacement tv will certainly be up to your liking since the company now knows that they cannot sell you any defective product.
Actually the one your are having now will be certainly sold later this year when a new series comes to the stores with around 30 to 35 percent off.Since no person will pay full amount for a scratch visible in the display area.

Wish you all the best.

Love,
kris.
