Default LCD burn in is it real?

I am now using my Computer monitor can LCD's Burn in if an image is left on the screen too long?

I think they can have retention problems but I have not had a problem with the LCD or CRT computer monitor on our desktop.

If an LCD is getting burn in, there is a problem with the screen. This just happened with one of our LCD tvs and the tech guy said the panel was bad.

I've seen burn-in on a Samsung LCD from watching 4x3 content. You could see the vertical lines from 4x3 black bars when watching certain content.

I have a panny plasma, and damned those snookersessions on the telly! But even after hours of watching, all I get is retention of the snookertable, but have yet to have burn-in.Dunno about LCD,but my LCD monitor for the PC has none of those probs neither,so think they have cracked that problem lately.

We have very high quality LCD displays in our DCS HMI control stations at my power plant and they all have burned in images of the most commonly used control graphics. But they are used 24/7.

Both LCD and plasma (and crt) can exhibit permanent burn-in if static images are left on the screens for long enough periods of time.

Our security camera system at work has a little LCD hooked to it, & it stays on the same screen pic for a long long time (30+ days). It can go 24/7 with no problems & it's an Acer.

My Kuro's have no problems with either IR/Burn-in.

Yes it can happen and yes it is real. You've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky?

How does burn-in happen on an LCD screen? Thought that was only a plasma thing (of the past).

Those who say LCDs are immune to burn in are only providing a half-truth.
It is fact that LCD displays are immune to phosphor wear due to the idea that they do not use phosphor to create a television image. Otherwise, it would be like saying an electric car can run out of gas. However, this is not to say LCD displays are immune to the effects of static images.

Since LCDs use organized crystal molecules in a twisted/untwisted state which allows polarized light to pass through the crystal substrate, over a period of time it is possible for these liquid crystals to "get used to" the state of twist they are in, causing a static image, very similar to phosphor burn-in, to be visible on the screen permanently.

I have a lcd screen at work on my dell server station that is on constantly 24/7 365 with no screen saver (others in office too lazy to minimize tasks to make screensaver kick on) and it 100 PERCENT HAS BURN IN. You can see the complete outline of the program against any background. HORRIBLE, but also a DELL!

That's the first time I've ever read someone explain exactly how the LCD 'burn-in' happens (though I've known it happens for quite awhile). Very enlightening post.

I use a Samsung 32" 1080P LCD (32a650) as a PC monitor and I leave it on almost all day and all night with facebook or other pages on and I've never seen any image retention on it or burn in. I guess it depends on the TV/monitor more than how much you use it because like I said - mine is on 18-24hrs a day and never a problem.

I do have some memories of a samsung LCD with terrible burn-in at CC. They had all the displays on a demo disc looped and it had a mitsubishi (>spelling) icon in the bottom right corner. I mentioned it to an employee and he said they had the probem with a few of the LCD from samsung LG and Sony. I'm not putting down any of the brands , there all very good & this was in 2007-2008. I haven't see any since, sure I know their out there, sure. My last post in this thread was a positive one for LCD. So I've posted experiences both with & without burn-in.

What kind of state are the crystal molecules in when the set is off?

I have a three-year-old Samsung 40-inch LCD. Currently it is taking literally minutes to power up. Additionally, when I watch movies with a 2.35 or similar aspect ratios, I get a temporary pale yellow burn-in.

Sammy FTW! Every brand has it's faults but sammys are starting to show there quality. I can't just pick on Sammy, now that we have had some of our displays for several years in some cases, we are finding out what brands are good quality and will last for years.
